Role Overview

We are looking for a skilled Backend Engineer to join our Conversational Agents team and build the backend that powers AI conversations for millions of users. You will design and develop server-side logic, APIs, and platform orchestration for voice and AI-driven applications—tackling challenging problems, ensuring scalability, performance, and security while contributing to a fast-paced, innovative product called "Samvaad" (which means "dialogue").

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend services by designing scalable APIs (REST/gRPC), building fault-tolerant systems, and ensuring clean, testable code.
  • Optimize data storage and retrieval by designing schemas, tuning queries, managing both relational (Postgres/MySQL) and NoSQL (Cassandra/Scylla DB) databases, and applying caching strategies.
  • Deliver reliable releases with robust observability using metrics, logs, and traces while ensuring backward compatibility.
  • Contribute to system architecture by participating in design discussions, resolving scaling and latency bottlenecks, and driving performance and reliability improvements.
  • Champion coding best practices, mentor peers, and stay current with backend and Generative AI technologies.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate AI models into production, define data contracts with frontend and product teams, and work with DevOps for smooth deployments.

What We Look For

Skills:

  • Backend development expertise with 3–6 years of experience, including distributed systems and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query optimization, and scaling.
  • Proficiency in event-driven architectures, asynchronous programming, and working with message brokers like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Experience in building and scaling APIs (Websocket/gRPC/WebRTC/REST) and implementing robust observability practices (using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenTelemetry).
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with a proven ability to optimize for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • A strong sense of ownership with experience in end-to-end feature delivery and process or architecture improvements.

Qualifications

  • Required Experience: 3–6 years in backend development with exposure to distributed systems and container orchestration.
  • Bonus Points: Full-stack development experience (including frontend technologies like React, Typescript, NextJS), CI/CD pipeline setup, and contributions to open-source projects demonstrated through a strong GitHub portfolio.
