Role Summary:

The Electrical FEA Engineer will perform electromagnetic and electrical simulations to support design, validation, and optimization of power and distribution transformers. This role requires strong technical knowledge in transformer electromagnetic theory, electrical stresses, insulation design, and short-circuit force calculations. The engineer will work closely with design, R&D, testing, and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical and electromagnetic FEA simulations for transformer components (core, windings, leads, structures).
  • Analyze magnetic flux, leakage reactance, eddy losses, and short-circuit forces using advanced simulation tools.
  • Evaluate dielectric stress distribution during lightning impulse, switching impulse, and AC withstand tests.
  • Support mechanical FEA teams with electrical force data and boundary conditions for coupled simulations.
  • Optimize transformer designs for losses, efficiency, and temperature rise while ensuring compliance with IEEE/IEC/CSA/ANSI.
  • Provide simulation insights for failure analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Develop simulation standards, material libraries, and best practices.
  • Prepare technical reports and support cross-functional teams in design improvements.
  • Collaborate with R&D, testing, and manufacturing teams for design validation and cost optimization initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters in Electrical Engineering (High Voltage preferred).
  • 3–8 years of experience in transformer design or electrical FEA.
  • Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory and insulation coordination.
  • Hands-on experience with FEA tools like ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, Opera, MagNet.
  • Knowledge of transformer standards (IEEE, IEC, CSA, ANSI).
  • CAD proficiency (2D/3D).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in power and distribution transformer design.
  • Experience with coupled electromagnetic–thermal–structural simulations.
  • Ability to correlate FEA results with test data.
  • Exposure to Python/MATLAB for automation.
  • Experience in failure analysis and product development.
