Freelance Opportunity: On-Premise Infrastructure Setup (Software + Networking)

We are looking for an experienced System Administrator / DevOps Engineer to help design, configure, and document a small-scale on-premise compute infrastructure. The goal is to establish a secure, modular, and reliable system for multi-user computational workloads and collaborative data sharing.

This is an on-premise project only — no remote deployment.

The scope of work is non-exhaustive, and full requirements will be finalized after on-site consultation and discussion.

(I) Software Scope (Non-Exhaustive):

1) User & Group Setup


Create multiple user profiles and group structures.

Configure restrictive bash environments with limited privileges per user.


2) Shared Storage Configuration


Enable group-based shared storage for large file access and data collaboration.


3) Resource Management


Install and configure SLURM job scheduler for resource constraints and fair usage.


4) Modular Software Access


Set up Lmod for managing and accessing multiple software versions via job scripts.


5) Containerization


Implement Docker containerization for loading user environments on demand.


6) Kubernetes Deployment


Configure bare-metal Kubernetes for production-grade, on-premise workloads.


7) Local Hardware Setup


End-to-end setup of 2 workstations + NAS, ensuring reliability and accessibility.


(II) Networking Scope (Non-Exhaustive):

1) Physical Network Setup


Structured cable management and complete labeling (system-to-system mapping).


2) Switch & Network Consultation


Recommend and configure high-speed switches for reliable LAN infrastructure.


3) Internet & ISP Consultation


Evaluate ISPs, costing, and scaling options for stable internet connectivity.


4) Documentation


Prepare comprehensive setup documentation and user guides.


5) Remote Access Configuration


Secure remote access setup (SSH/VPN) for authorized users.


6) Inter & Intra Network Design


Full network consultation to ensure scalable, efficient connectivity.


(III) Deliverables:

1) Fully configured multi-user compute environment with scheduling and container support.

2) Documented system and network architecture.

3) Admin and user-level operation manuals.

4) On-site consultation report and recommendations.

(IV) Desired Expertise:

1) Strong background in Linux (Ubuntu/CentOS/RHEL/Mint) system administration.

2) Proven experience with SLURM, Lmod, Docker, bare-metal Kubernetes, and NAS setups.

3) Good understanding of on-premise HPC/compute environments, switch configuration, and secure networking.

4) Documentation and user-guide preparation skills.

(V) Engagement Details:

1) Location: On-Premise (Hyderabad region preferred).

2) Mode: Freelance / Project-based Contract.

3) Consultation Required: Final scope and details to be discussed on-site.
