About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative Book Editor to join our editorial team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and refining manuscripts to ensure they are engaging, error-free, and aligned with our publishing standards. You will collaborate closely with authors, proofreaders, and designers to bring books to life—from initial submission to final publication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and edit manuscripts for grammar, spelling, punctuation, tone, and consistency.
  • Provide constructive editorial feedback to authors while preserving their unique voice.
  • Perform developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading as required.
  • Ensure manuscripts follow the company's style guide and formatting standards.
  • Collaborate with authors to refine plot structure, pacing, character development, and clarity.
  • Coordinate with the design team to ensure layout and typography support the content effectively.
  • Verify facts, dates, and references for accuracy.
  • Manage editorial schedules to meet production deadlines.
  • Stay updated on literary trends, genre expectations, and market demands.
  • Work with the marketing team to provide editorial insights for book blurbs, press releases, and promotional materials.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Publishing, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Book Editor, Copyeditor, or in a similar editorial role.
  • Exceptional command of the English language with strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
  • Ability to edit across multiple genres (fiction, non-fiction, academic, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with authors and cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Google Docs, and editorial tools (e.g., Track Changes).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developmental editing for fiction or non-fiction.
  • Familiarity with publishing platforms (e.g., InDesign, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style or other style guides.
  • Passion for storytelling and a keen eye for detail.
