About the role

The Basketball Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a high-quality basketball program for students. The role involves coaching teams, developing students' athletic skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and discipline, while ensuring the program aligns with the school's mission to promote holistic development and intercultural respect. The coach also supports the school's broader physical education and extracurricular sports initiatives.

What you will be doing

• Design and implement comprehensive basketball training programs for various age and skill levels (beginner to advanced).
• Conduct regular practice sessions focusing on skill development, strategy, fitness, and teamwork.
• Teach fundamental techniques, rules, and game strategies in alignment with international standards.
• Prepare teams for inter-school, regional, and international tournaments.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivational environment for all players.
• Develop seasonal plans, training schedules, and match calendars.
• Identify and nurture talented players for school representation.
• Manage team selection, player rotations, and game strategies.
• Maintain sports equipment and ensure safe use of facilities.
• Coordinate with the Athletics Department for logistics, transportation, and event organization.
• Promote values such as teamwork, respect, discipline, and perseverance through sport.
• Support students in balancing academics and athletics.
• Encourage healthy competition and personal goal setting.
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and motivation to student-athletes.
• Work closely with the PE faculty, school counsellors, and other coaches to support student wellbeing.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding training schedules, team participation, and progress.
• Represent the school professionally at all inter-school sports events and associations.
• Ensure all activities follow school safety policies and international sports standards.
• Monitor players' physical condition and respond appropriately to injuries or emergencies.
• Promote sportsmanship and ethical behaviour among players.

Who we are looking for: Qualifications & Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in physical education, Sports Science, or a related field (preferred).
• Coaching certification from a recognized sports body (e.g., FIBA, national sports authority, or equivalent).

Experience:

• Minimum of 2–5 years of experience coaching basketball, preferably in an international or school environment.
• Experience working with children and adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of basketball techniques, rules, and strategies.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and motivational skills.
• Ability to inspire teamwork and maintain discipline.
• First-aid or CPR certification (preferred).
