About Programme

The position focuses on advancing clean cooking initiatives within the broader context of energy access and sustainability. The role will leverage research to address the challenges associated with traditional cooking practices, which affect and contribute to significant health and environmental issues.

This role is suitable for candidates from a variety of professional backgrounds including those with research, consulting, think-tank, and corporate experience. The candidate will get the chance to explore innovative solutions for transitioning from traditional way of cooking to cleaner cooking alternatives, such as electric and gas, solar, biofuels, and other cleaner alternatives etc. The work will aim to improve health outcomes, promote gender equality, and mitigate climate change impacts linked to household energy use.

Candidate will support the development and promotion of modern energy cooking solutions, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future. The research will play a vital role in informing policies and practices that enhance the quality, reliability, and sustainability of energy services.

Primary Duties or Responsibilities

Research Inputs and Report Writing

• Conduct desk-based research to track sector developments and create a credible repository of information.
• Develop research inputs for ongoing programs and projects, ensuring they align with key objectives.
• Plan and conduct both one-to-one consultations and multi-stakeholder consultations, consolidating findings into short reports.
• Develop credible knowledge resources such as short/long reports, case studies, and blogs for publication and sharing with stakeholders.
• Write policy briefs targeted at specific audiences and research papers suitable for high-quality academic publication.
• Create agendas and notes for meetings, capacity building programs, workshops, and conferences, preparing minutes and ensuring dissemination of information.
• Provide qualitative research inputs for business proposals and other strategic documents.
• Track advancements in clean cooking technologies, energy policies, and market trends, ensuring alignment with broader program goals.
• Guide the analysis and interpretation of project data, ensuring that evidence-based decisions are made to optimize technology and interventions.
• Development of agenda/notes for various activities including meetings/capacity building programs/workshops, conferences, preparing minutes, and dissemination.
• Provide Qualitative Research Input for new projects

Plan & Co-Ordinate Research Projects

• Develop Plans and frameworks for Research Projects
• Identify and engage with stakeholders to carry out in-depth research with relevant literature reviews, and research methodologies. This would include but not be limited to the development of Concept Notes, Proposals, and Framework for Stakeholder Input.
• Work closely on technology promotion, new innovation and development in the domain of clean cooking.
• Work towards improving health outcomes, promote gender equality, and mitigate climate change impacts linked to household energy use.
• Work on research requests from senior researchers, discuss research needs, and prepare responses that synthesize and analyse information

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the field of research, policy/industry engagement
• Background in development studies or related fields would be important
• Background in energy technology or related field would be important
• Experience in conducting research and analysing data (Mixed methods) essential
• Strong capability to research, write, communicate, facilitate and present cogently to all levels with government, international agencies, industries, clients, and internal staff and management
• Significant experience working in international development settings with partners from multiple countries almost essential
• Authoring original work for academic journal papers, conference papers or technical reports would be useful but not essential

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
• Ability to write project reports and make presentations to industrial and academic research groups
• Ability to manage own workload essential
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• Expertise with SPSS, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Previous quantitative and qualitative research experience
