
STAFF NURSE- Emergency/ICU

Patient Care
- Receive and assess patients promptly, identifying urgent needs.
- Provide basic and advanced nursing care as per the patient's condition.
- Monitor vital signs (BP, pulse, respiration, temperature, oxygen saturation) regularly.
- Maintain patient hygiene, comfort, and positioning.
- Administer oxygen therapy and other supportive measures when required.
2. Medication and Treatment
- Administer medications as per physicians orders, ensuring the five rights (right patient, drug, dose, route, time).
- Prepare and assist in emergency procedures (e.g., resuscitation, intubation, IV line insertion).
- Monitor for side effects or reactions to drugs and treatments.
- Maintain infusion lines, catheters and drains properly.
3. Monitoring and Documentation
- Continuously monitor patients clinical status and promptly report any changes to the physician.
- Document all care, medications, and procedures accurately in patient records.
- Maintain charts for fluid intake/output, vital signs, and observations.
- Keep track of equipment usage and availability.
4. Emergency Preparedness
- Be ready to respond to Code Blue or other medical emergencies.
- Operate and maintain emergency equipment (defibrillator, suction machine, ventilator, monitors).
- Follow protocols for trauma, cardiac arrest, shock, respiratory distress, or obstetric emergencies.
5. Infection Control & Safety
- Follow universal precautions to prevent cross-infection.
- Use PPE appropriately and dispose of biomedical waste as per guidelines.
- Maintain sterile fields during invasive procedures.
- Ensure safety of patient, staff, and self at all times.
6. Patient & Family Support
- Provide emotional support to patients and relatives during critical situations.
- Explain procedures and care plans in understandable terms.
- Encourage family participation in patient care where appropriate.
7. Coordination & Teamwork
- Work closely with doctors, technicians, and other nurses to ensure smooth workflow.
- Assist during procedures, deliveries, surgeries, and resuscitation.
- Ensure proper handover at shift change, giving complete patient updates.
8. Equipment Handling
- Check functionality of ICU/ER equipment before use.
- Maintain adequate stock of emergency drugs, IV fluids, and disposables.
- Report and arrange repair for faulty equipment.
9. Ethical & Legal Responsibilities
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Obtain informed consent before procedures where required.
- Adhere to hospital policies and nursing ethics.
