Job Summary

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of over-the-road drivers to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective delivery of freight. This role involves scheduling, communication with drivers and customers, monitoring shipments, and resolving issues as they arise. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and have a strong understanding of OTR transportation logistics.

Key Responsibilities

Driver Dispatch & Scheduling

  • Assign loads to drivers based on availability, location, hours of service (HOS), and equipment type
  • Optimize routes and load assignments to ensure timely pickups and deliveries
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with FMCSA HOS regulations

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain constant communication with drivers via phone, ELD systems, and dispatch software
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between drivers, brokers, customers, and the internal team
  • Provide real-time updates and ETAs to customers and resolve service-related inquiries

Load Management

  • Manage load entries, status updates, and load completion in TMS (Transportation Management System)
  • Track and trace loads to ensure on-time performance and proactively handle delays
  • Coordinate recovery plans for late deliveries or equipment breakdowns

Administrative Tasks

  • Maintain accurate records of driver logs, load paperwork, and communications
  • Assist with billing, rate confirmations, and check calls
  • Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a dispatching role within the OTR transportation or freight industry
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service (HOS) rules
  • Proficient with TMS systems, GPS tracking software, and ELD platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in high-pressure situations
  • Availability to work flexible shifts, including evenings or weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field
  • Experience working with a 24/7 dispatch operation
  • Familiarity with software such as LoadStop, McLeod, Samsara, TruckMate, or similar
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
  • Understanding of freight brokerage operations
