Job Description:

A Quality Head in the heavy machinery industry is a leadership role responsible for ensuring the quality of products and processes, implementing quality management systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This involves overseeing raw material inspection, in-process quality checks, final product inspections, and addressing any quality-related issues. They also play a key role in supplier quality management, risk management, and training. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Management System (QMS):
    Implementing and maintaining a robust QMS to ensure products meet established quality standards. 


  • Inspection and Testing:
    Overseeing raw material inspection, in-process quality checks, and final product inspections, including witnessing mechanical tests, radiographic films, and pressure tests. 


  • Supplier Quality Management:
    Evaluating, auditing, and managing suppliers to ensure they meet quality requirements, including addressing potential issues and developing mitigation plans. 


  • Continuous Improvement:
    Identifying areas for improvement in quality processes and implementing strategies to enhance product quality and reduce defects. 


  • Documentation and Reporting:
    Preparing and submitting quality documentation, including reports on quality performance, supplier performance, and corrective actions. 


  • Team Management:
    Leading and mentoring a team of quality control personnel, providing guidance and support to achieve quality goals. 


  • Risk Management:
    Identifying potential quality risks and developing plans to mitigate them, ensuring a proactive approach to quality control. 


  • Compliance and Standards:
    Ensuring that all quality processes and products comply with relevant industry standards and regulations. 


  • Customer Interaction:
    Interacting with customers regarding quality-related issues, addressing concerns, and building strong relationships. 


  • Training and Development:
    Providing training to employees on quality procedures, standards, and best practices. 



Typical Work Environment:
  • Often works in a factory or fabrication facility, but may also spend time on the production floor or at vendor locations.
  • Regularly interacts with production staff, engineers, and senior management.
  • May require occasional travel to supplier sites or customer locations.
