Job description for Experienced Medical coder

Job Title: E&M Medical Coder (IP & OP)

Job Summary:

We're seeking an experienced E&M Medical Coder to join our team. As an E&M Medical Coder, you will be responsible for accurately assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for inpatient and outpatient services. You will be required to work on surgical specialities like Gastroenterology and pain management also apart from E & M.(Training will be provided in surgical coding) You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with coding regulations and optimizing revenue cycle performance.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for E&M services

- Apply coding guidelines and regulations to ensure compliance

- Review medical records to determine appropriate coding

- Stay up-to-date with coding updates, guidelines, and regulations

- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and coding queries

- Communicate with billing and AR teams to resolve coding-related issues and denials

- Participate in denial management processes, including root cause analysis and corrective actions

Requirements:

- Proven experience in E&M medical coding (IP & OP) for 2 to 3 yrs

- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems

- Ability to analyze medical records and apply coding guidelines

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

- Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications:

- Medical coding certification (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)

- Experience with coding audits and compliance

- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs)

Key Skills:

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills

- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (billing, AR, providers)
