We are seeking two motivated andoutstanding Video Journalists to join BBC News Urdu, based in New Delhi and Srinagar. The BBC is a global leader in digital journalism, recognized for its wide -ranging editorial coverage and cutting -edge technological innovation. The role of VideoJournalist is crucial in delivering well -produced video content for the BBC'swebsite as well as social media platforms. The purpose of the role is primarily toinitiate, gather and produce material for news, current affairs and generalprogramming as well as routinely self -shooting and editing complete packagesfor use across multiple platforms.The successful candidate willhave experience of proven craft skills including the ability to both shoot andedit video and good editorial understanding of India as well as the digitalmedia market. You should have the ability to produce video content independently for digital platforms aimed particularly at a young audience. Strongcommand over the Urdu language is essential and knowledge of English ispreferred. About BBCNews Urdu BBC News Urdu is one of the oldest language services in BBCWorld Service. Originally a radio service, it is now a predominantly digitalservice and provides up -to -date news and current affairs for the Urdu -speakingaudiences in India, Pakistan as well as globally. This might be live or recorded.Exercise editorial judgmentin developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.To undertake pre - andpost -production and studio work, live and pre -recorded. Use a range of video,audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write,assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highestprofessional standards.To liaise closely with otherteam members and with other departments in the Collective Newsroom, to ensurethat output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice isupheld.Take a lead within a teamsetting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project asappropriate.Totailor different news treatments for different audiences ensuring that theoutput reflects the audiences we serve.To prioritise and planactivities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such asdeadlines, staffing and resources available.To produce engaging packagesthrough a range of production skills.Delivering to tight deadlineswhile maintaining the highest editorial standards.Willing and adept at passing on skills throughtraining and mentoring.At all times to carry outduties in accordance with the Collective Newsroom health and safety policy.RequirementsAbility to gather and prepare audio andvideo material for use on any platform, recognizing the distinct requirementsof different types of output, self -shootingand editing routinely as the main focus of the role.Significantrecent experience as a video journalist, with a good knowledge of productiontechniques – especially self -shooting and editing.Demonstratessound editorial and policy decisions based upon a clear understanding of theBBC's distinctive news agenda, the requirements of news and current affairscoverage and the audience.Strongrecord of originating and developing stories for news programmes on multiple platforms.Ability touse technology as required, gathering material for broadcast.Understandshow a team works effectively.Able tobuild and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people.Effectiveplanning and organizing skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of workat one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively tochanges and conflicting priorities.Ability towrite creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate withaccuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms ofmedia suitable for digital output.Theflexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly underpressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.Anunderstanding of health and safety procedures and how they apply tobroadcasting/digital media.
