Video Journalist

Job Introduction
The English Online team is at the heart of the BBC’s India coverage, providing text and visual content for the BBC News website. The team has to ensure that in the face of increasing competition, the BBC is the world leader in digital journalism, and at the forefront of both the range of editorial coverage and technological innovation.

They should be able to work across formats like documentaries, explainers, news videos, shorts, reels and interviews. Ability to work with different kinds of cameras, editing and graphics software is essential. Strong command over English language is essential. Good understanding of lighting and sound is also essential.

Main Responsibilities
- Contribute to the overall video output published by the BBC’s India English Online team on the website, social media platforms and the soon-to-be-launched YouTube channel.
- Should be able to film on a wide range of cameras and should be able to edit on FCP and Premiere Pro among other editing software.
- Strong command over English language is essential.
- Should have knowledge of creating graphics on Motion, Adobe After Effects among other software.
- Should have expertise in scripting, filming and editing short-format videos like reels and YouTube shorts.
- Responsible for originating, scripting and producing video stories which include news, explainers and documentaries.
- Should be able to script and present explainers, news videos and documentaries.
- Ideate and produce relevant materials ensuring they meet the expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
- Ideate and edit video stories from the BBC’s language services.
- Knowledge of social media analytic tools is desirable.
- Familiarity with different scripting formats and cameras is essential.
- Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
- Deliver journalism of the highest standard and within the required timeframe using available resources.
- Delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
- At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.

Applicants will have relevant experience of producing high-quality videos. They should have good understanding of camerawork, lighting, scripting and editing. They will be able to demonstrate a strong interest in video production and proven commitment to news.

Must have the full range of technical skills, the ability to lead, ideate, script and shoot videos. They should be willing to learn how to use new technology and kit.

Need to demonstrate editorial awareness and judgement combined with a thorough understanding of the editorial aims and policies of BBC News.

Experience of gathering news content in public order situations.

Able to take responsibility for any brief that might be assigned by the India Editor, including supervising less experienced members of staff. This includes working well within a team of journalists across the whole range of BBC News outlets and the ability to work under pressure.
