Server Administrator

Responsibilities :

• Lead the administration, maintenance, and support of our enterprise Tableau environment, spanning both Tableau Server (on-premises) and Tableau Cloud.
• Manage user provisioning, authentication, and authorization across both platforms, ensuring adherence to security policies and best practices.
• Perform regular server health checks, performance monitoring, and capacity planning for both Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud environments.
• Implement and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies for Tableau Server.
• Plan and execute Tableau Server upgrades and patching, ensuring minimal disruption to users.
• Monitor and optimize Tableau Server performance, including tuning configurations, managing extracts, and troubleshooting performance issues.
• Manage site creation, user roles, permissions, and content organization within Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud administration processes, configurations, and best practices.
• Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to ensure the underlying infrastructure (servers, network, storage) meets the requirements of the Tableau environment.
• Provide expert-level support and troubleshooting for Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud issues, working closely with end-users and development teams.
• Implement and enforce Tableau governance policies and standards to ensure data security and consistency.
• Stay abreast of the latest Tableau features, updates, and best practices for both Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud.
• Develop and implement strategies for optimizing Tableau license utilization and cost management.
• Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new Tableau features and functionalities.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior Tableau administrators or support staff, if applicable.
• Work with Tableau Support to resolve complex technical issues.
• Manage Tableau Server integrations with other enterprise systems.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts for routine administrative Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Equivalent extensive practical experience will be considered.

• Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in Tableau administration, with a significant focus on both Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud.
• Deep understanding of Tableau Server architecture, components, and processes.
• Extensive experience managing and administering Tableau Cloud environments.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot complex Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud issues effectively.
• Strong knowledge of security best practices for Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud.
• Expertise in performance tuning and optimization of Tableau Server environments.
• Experience with user management, authentication (including SAML, Active Directory), and authorization within Tableau.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts and their impact on Tableau performance.
• Proficiency in scripting languages for automation (e.g., Tabcmd, Tableau Server Client (TSC) in Python, PowerShell).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced Skills:
• Tableau Server Administration (10+ years): In-depth expertise in all aspects of Tableau Server administration, including installation, configuration, maintenance, upgrades, patching, security, performance tuning, backup and recovery.
• Tableau Cloud Administration (5+ years): Significant and demonstrable experience in managing and administering Tableau Cloud environments, including user management, site administration, security, and connectivity.
• Performance Optimization: Proven ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in both Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud environments.
• Security Management: Deep understanding and practical experience in implementing and managing security within Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud, including user permissions, authentication, and data security.
• Troubleshooting: Exceptional troubleshooting skills with a proven track record of resolving complex Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud issues.
• Scripting (e.g., Tabcmd, TSC Python): Proficiency in using scripting tools to automate administrative tasks and interact with Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud APIs.
• User and Content Management: Extensive experience in managing users, groups, permissions, projects, and workbooks within both Skills :
• Tableau Certified Professional (TCP) or other relevant Tableau certifications.
• Experience with integrating Tableau with various data sources, including databases, cloud platforms, and applications.
• Familiarity with data governance principles and their application within Tableau.
• Experience with monitoring tools for Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud.
• Knowledge of ITIL framework and best practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Familiarity with database administration concepts.
• Experience with data warehousing and business intelligence concepts.
