Cyient is seeking a visionary and hands-on Chief Architect to lead the design and delivery of next-generation Automated Fare Collection (AFC) systems. The ideal candidate will bring deep domain expertise in fare collection technologies, strong AWS cloud architecture skills, and a proven track record in customer engagement, requirement gathering, and proposal solutioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect scalable, secure, and interoperable Automatic Fare Collection platforms supporting smart cards, QR codes, mobile ticketing, and open-loop payments.
  • Lead solution design for multi-modal fare systems, including account-based ticketing (ABT), contactless EMV, and NFC-based solutions.
  • Collaborate with transit agencies and internal stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into robust technical architectures.
  • Drive proposal creation, including technical solutioning, effort estimation, and customer presentations.
  • Define and enforce architecture standards, design patterns, and best practices across AFC and cloud-native projects.
  • Guide teams on microservices, API-first design, DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Ensure compliance with NCMC (National Common Mobility Card) standards and integration with national payment ecosystems.
  • Mentor solution architects and engineering leads, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 20+ years in IT services/product engineering with at least 10 years in an architect role.

  • Deep domain expertise in AFC systems, including:

  • Smart card and mobile ticketing (e.g., NEC, Masabi, Chalo, Paytm, Girmiti) [], [], []

  • Account-based and open-loop fare systems (e.g., Datamatics, DIMTS) []
  • AI-enhanced AFC platforms (e.g., Intel) []

  • Mobile SDK integration for ticketing and ID scanning (e.g., Anyline)

  • Strong AWS cloud architecture experience (EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, EKS, CloudFormation).

  • Experience in customer-facing roles, including requirement workshops and stakeholder management.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tools, and automation frameworks.
  • Exposure to proposal writing, pre-sales solutioning, and cost estimation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional or Associate).
  • TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification.
  • Experience with AFC deployments in metro, bus, or rail systems.
  • Familiarity with NCMC, UPI, and India-specific transit payment ecosystems.
