Role Overview

The
Procurement Manager
will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of non-perishable farm produce by directly engaging with Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), farmer groups, and contract farming networks. The role requires hands-on experience in sourcing, supply chain management, and farmer engagement, with the ability to scale operations and lead a team as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Sourcing & Procurement

• Establish and manage direct sourcing channels from large FPOs, farmer groups, and contract farming networks.

• Drive procurement of 3–4 SKUs in non-perishable farm produce (e.g., pulses, grains, millets, spices).

• Negotiate and finalize procurement contracts ensuring competitive pricing and quality compliance.

• Farmer & Market Engagement

• Build and nurture long-term relationships with farmers, FPOs, and agri-entrepreneurs.

• Understand and analyze market requirements regarding crops, varieties, and quality specifications.

• Conduct farmer training and awareness sessions on quality, sustainability, and supply expectations.

• Supply Chain & Operations

• Oversee post-procurement activities including storage, quality checks, logistics, and distribution.

• Ensure smooth coordination between procurement, warehousing, and downstream supply chain.

• Work with third-party partners/vendors for supply chain efficiency.

• Leadership & Team Building

• Lead procurement operations in the early phase and gradually build and manage a high-performing team.

• Mentor and guide team members in procurement best practices and farmer relationship management.

Qualifications & Experience
Required Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3–4 years of experience in procurement within FMCG companies, agri-tech start-ups, or contract farming projects.
• Proven track record of managing large-scale procurement projects in India.
• Strong knowledge of non-perishable farm produce (pulses, grains, millets, spices), varietal differences, and quality standards.
• On-ground experience working with farmers, FPOs, or farmer groups and willingness to travel extensively for field operations.
• Exposure to post-harvest supply chain activities including storage, quality checks, and logistics.
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated ability to operate independently and lead early-stage procurement/business operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with major FMCG companies (e.g., ITC, HUL, Tata Consumer) or agri-tech players (e.g., Dehaat, Ninjacart, WayCool).
• Experience managing procurement across multiple SKUs or commodity categories (3–4 SKUs preferred).
• Prior experience working directly with Farmer Producer Organisations or contract farming models.
• Familiarity with quality certification standards (e.g., organic, FSSAI) or sustainable farming practices.
• Prior experience in hiring, mentoring, or leading field teams is an advantage.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Supply Chain, Business Management, or a related discipline. Master's degree or relevant postgraduate qualification is a plus.
