Job Description:
A Chemist in a Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) plant is responsible for chemical analysis of raw materials and finished products, quality control and assurance, monitoring chemical processes, and maintaining lab equipment to ensure the safe and efficient production of DRI for steelmaking. Key duties include conducting tests on raw materials like iron ore, coal, and pellets, as well as the final DRI product; performing quality checks to meet standards; calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment; and managing and preparing quality reports for compliance and operational oversight. 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Quality Control:Conduct chemical and physical analysis of raw materials (iron ore, coal, pellets) and the final DRI product to ensure they meet quality standards. 
  • Process Monitoring:Oversee and monitor the chemical processes within the DRI plant to ensure efficient and safe operations. 
  • Laboratory Operations:Calibrate, maintain, and ensure the proper functioning of laboratory equipment and testing instruments. 
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:Analyze test results, document findings, and prepare detailed reports for management and quality compliance. 
  • Safety Compliance:Adhere to and promote safety policies and procedures within the laboratory and plant environment. 
  • Inventory and Material Handling:Assist in the management of raw material and chemical inventory, ensuring appropriate stock levels. 
Required Qualifications and Skills
 
  • Education:A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is often required. 
  • Technical Skills:Proficiency in analytical techniques and the use of laboratory equipment such as HPLC, GC-MS, and NMR. 
  • Knowledge:Strong understanding of chemical principles and procedures relevant to the iron and steel industry. 
  • Soft Skills:Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience:Proven experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in an industrial or production environment.
