Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain Linux server environments (RHEL, Oracle Linux with OLVM, Ubuntu) in production and non-production settings.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute OS patching and upgrades with minimal downtime.
  • Evaluate patch impact, compatibility, and criticality.
  • Coordinate patching windows with stakeholders.
  • Validate post-patch system and service integrity.
  • Perform kernel upgrades, package updates, and security patches regularly.
  • Maintain configuration consistency using tools like Ansible, Satellite, or similar (preferred).
  • Handle lifecycle management of Linux systems including provisioning, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage subscription and license maintenance for Red Hat and Oracle Linux environments.
  • Maintain system documentation, including patching logs, upgrade plans, rollback strategies, and licensing records.
  • Support and troubleshoot virtual environments using Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM) and KVM.
  • Perform proactive health checks and capacity planning.
  • Work closely with DevOps, application teams, and vendors on infrastructure support and changes.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 5–7 years of hands-on Linux system administration in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong experience with:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7/8/9)
  • Ubuntu Server (18.04/20.04/22.04)
  • Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM)
  • In-depth understanding of Linux patching methodologies (YUM/DNF, apt, Live Patching tools).
  • Experience with planning and execution of major OS upgrades (e.g., RHEL 7 to 8, Ubuntu LTS upgrades).
  • Familiarity with subscription management tools: RHSM, ULN, or Spacewalk/Satellite.
  • Solid grasp of system logging, monitoring (e.g., journald, rsyslog, Nagios/Zabbix), and troubleshooting.
  • Scripting skills (Bash essential; Python, Perl nice to have).
  • Understanding of networking basics (IP, DNS, firewall rules) and storage concepts (LVM, multipathing).

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet).
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, OCI).
  • RHCSA, RHCE, or Oracle Linux certifications.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes for change/incident management.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to document processes clearly.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and take initiative.
