Core Duties and Responsibilities

Horticulturist responsibilities typically involve a mix of scientific application and hands-on work:

• Plant Care & Cultivation: Monitoring plant health, performing routine maintenance tasks like planting, pruning, and trimming, and ensuring optimal growing conditions.
• Pest & Disease Management: Identifying and treating plant diseases and pest infestations using safe and effective practices.
• Soil and Nutrition Management: Conducting soil analyses, preparing soils for planting, and applying appropriate fertilizers and chemicals to ensure plants receive the proper nutrients.
• Irrigation Management: Installing, managing, and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure efficient watering practices.
• Research & Analysis: Conducting research to improve plant production methods, identify new varieties, or enhance plant resilience to climate challenges.
• Planning & Design: Designing garden, park, and landscape layouts, and creating crop schedules for farms or nurseries.
• Equipment Operation: Operating and maintaining various farming and gardening equipment, such as mowers, tractors, and sprayers.
• Supervision & Training: Depending on the role's seniority, tasks may include managing staff, training junior horticulturists, and overseeing daily operations in a nursery or farm setting.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
