Job Description Maintenance Head

Job Title: Maintenance Head – Food Manufacturing

Department: Engineering & Maintenance

Location: Wardwizard Foods & Beverages Ltd., POR – Vadodara

Employment Type: Full-time

Experience required: 8–12 years in FMCG / Ready-to-Eat / Frozen foods / Food processing unit

Education: Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech – Mechanical / Electrical / Mechatronics

Reports To: Plant Head / Operations Head

Job Purpose:

To lead the complete maintenance function of the plant including utilities, production machines, retort, cold storage, HVAC, compressors, electrical systems and preventive maintenance. The role ensures machine uptime, cost efficiency, safety compliance, and smooth plant operations by implementing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies as per food industry standards (ISO 22000 / HACCP / GMP / FSSAI / US FDA export norms).

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance

  2. Plan, lead and implement Preventive Maintenance Schedule (PMS) for all machinery, utilities and electrical systems.

  3. Resolve breakdowns on priority to ensure minimum downtime during production.

  4. Maintain maintenance history logbooks, breakdown analysis and equipment health monitoring dashboards.

  5. Operation & Maintenance of Plant Machinery & Utilities

Responsible for smooth functioning and maintenance of:

  • Retort machines, continuous/batch sterilizers
  • Blast freezer, cold storage rooms, refrigeration units
  • Boilers, air compressors, HVAC units
  • Packaging machines, conveyors, process mixers, steam kettles

  • Control panels, MCC panels, electrical distribution systems, motors, VFDs

  • Technical & Automation Support

  • Troubleshoot and support basic PLC-related issues (Allen Bradley / Siemens preferred).

  • Coordinate during new equipment installation, testing, commissioning and validation.

  • Vendor & Inventory Management

  • Manage AMC, service contracts, spare parts inventory, vendor selection & negotiations.

  • Ensure timely procurement of spare parts without excess inventory blocking.

  • Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure adherence to food industry compliance:

  • FSSAI, HACCP, ISO 22000, GMP, US FDA export compliance
  • Safety regulations and statutory inspections

  • Maintain calibration and maintenance records as per audit requirements.

  • Safety & Audit Readiness

  • Train team on equipment safety SOPs, Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO), and PPE usage.

  • Ensure readiness for internal, customer, FSSAI and export audits.

  • Team Leadership

  • Lead a team of technicians, electricians, operator-level maintenance staff.

  • Assign daily tasks, monitor manpower productivity and performance.
  • Train team on new technology, troubleshooting, equipment handling.

Skills & Competencies Required:

  • Strong analytical problem-solving & leadership skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical & utilities maintenance.
  • Hands-on experience with food industry machinery (retort, freezers, packaging lines).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&ID, load charts.
  • Strong decision-making and prioritization skills in breakdown situations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SAP / ERP maintenance modules preferred.
