Job Description
The Assistant Director for IT and Facilities will provide high-level technical, administrative and functional IT and facilities support to the faculty, staff and students of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC). The Assistant Director will establish, administer, and support the computing and technology-related resources of CEHC's research and instructional lab spaces and related facility spaces. The Assistant Director will develop plans to maximize utilization of existing technology and identify areas for improvement in alignment with CEHC initiatives. They will coordinate with the faculty, staff, students and related stakeholders (such as UAlbany ITS) to prioritize and manage the CEHC lab/instruction portfolio with a focus on continual process improvement, collaboration, and maximizing efficiencies, and will identify and develop protocols and procedures to maintain and improve current systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide primary support for all IT related efforts, issues, and initiatives, with respect to CEHC space.
- Act as primary point-of-contact for all CEHC-related hardware and software in labs and learning spaces.
- Develop protocols with IT to work through IT-related requests of CEHC faculty, with particular emphasis on new technologies, i.e. high-powered computing, servers, etc.
- Execute on said protocols, updating processes and procedures as needed.
- Oversee the selection of CEHC IT hardware and software, including but not limited to computers, 3-D printers, laser cutters, and robots.

- Reports to Vice Dean

- May supervise employees as assigned (if no direct reports at time of filling position)
Job Requirements
Technical Proficiency in IT and Emerging Technologies
Ability to support and troubleshoot hardware/software in specialized labs (e.g., AI labs, Makerspace, Drone Lab).
- Experience with emerging technologies such as 3D printing, AR/VR, robotics, and IoT.
Familiarity with configuring and maintaining non-standard hardware and software.
Project and Facilities Management
Skill in developing and executing protocols for space usage, equipment maintenance, and technology integration.
- Ability to manage complex data related to inventory, supplies, and equipment usage.
Experience in planning and supporting technology-enhanced learning environments
Communication and Collaboration
Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with faculty, staff, ITS, and university committees.
- Ability to act as a primary point of contact for IT and facilities-related requests.
Experience coordinating with multiple stakeholders for events and space planning.
Problem Solving and Adaptability
Capacity to proactively address IT needs and troubleshoot issues across various platforms and devices.
- Flexibility to support events outside normal hours and adapt to evolving technology requirements.
- Ability to update and refine processes based on feedback and changing needs.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Science, Data Science or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- 1-5 years of experience analyzing, implementing and troubleshooting IT systems and specifications
- Experience in one or more emerging technologies, such as electronics, microcontrollers, 3-D printers, drones, VR/AR, robotics
- 1 or more years of experience in project management including tracking project progress and ROI.
- 1 or more years of experience working with various technology stakeholders
- Candidate must demonstrate excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Information Technology Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Science, Data Science or related field from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
- 2+ years of experience managing computer systems and networks
- Experience organizing technical events such as Hackathon or Game Jam
Working Environment
- Typical office environment
- Technological teaching classrooms and research laboratories
- Available to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and outreach activities
- Occasional travel for meetings and outreach events
- Applicants must have valid driver's license and personal vehicle with which to attend off-site events
- Ability to lift and move electronics and related materials weighing up to 30lbs
Additional Information
Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant, SL3, $65,000 - $70,000
