Job description

  1. Sample Development:

  2. Collaborate with the design team to understand customer requirements and design specifications.

  3. Develop prototypes and initial samples based on design concepts and technical specifications.

  4. Ensure that samples meet quality and design standards.

  5. Cost Estimation:

  6. Analyze material and labor costs for sample production.

  7. Provide cost estimates for sample development to support pricing decisions.

  8. Sampling Planning:

  9. Create sampling schedules and timelines to meet customer deadlines.

  10. Coordinate with design, patternmaking, and sewing teams to allocate resources effectively.

  11. Materials Sourcing:

  12. Collaborate with the procurement team to source materials required for sample production.

  13. Ensure timely availability of fabrics, trims, and accessories.

  14. Workstation Layout and Setup:

  15. Optimize the layout of sample workstations to facilitate efficient and organized production.

  16. Set up machines and equipment as needed for specific sample requirements.

  17. Work Methods and Procedures:

  18. Develop and document standardized work methods for sample production.

  19. Ensure that sewing techniques and quality standards are consistent with bulk production requirements.

  20. Quality Control:

  21. Establish and enforce quality control procedures for sample evaluation.

  22. Conduct thorough inspections and identify defects or discrepancies for correction.

  23. Team Collaboration:

  24. Coordinate closely with the design, patternmaking, and production teams to address design modifications and production feasibility.

  25. Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and ensure alignment.

  26. Data Management:

  27. Maintain accurate records of sample development, including materials used, labor hours, and costs.

  28. Track and report on the progress of sample orders.

10. Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to streamline the sample development process and reduce lead times.
  • Implement Lean principles and process improvements to enhance efficiency.

11. Vendor Management:

  • Manage relationships with external vendors, including patternmakers, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Ensure timely delivery and quality of outsourced sample components.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Textile Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in sample development within the garment industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency in patternmaking and garment construction techniques.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of material sourcing and cost estimation.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and industrial engineering tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
