Job Description: Head of Operations Enviro Labs

Location: Mumbai, India

Reports To: CEO

Role Purpose

The Head of Operations will lead the operational management of Enviro Labs at Netel India, ensuring compliance with NABL/MoEFCC/ISO 17025 standards, while driving efficiency, innovation, and business growth. The role involves overseeing environmental laboratory operations, managing multi-disciplinary teams, and ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction across India.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Oversee end-to-end laboratory operations, including environmental monitoring, sampling, testing, analysis, and reporting across water, air, soil, fuels, and industrial waste.
  • Drive operational excellence by optimizing resource allocation, lab productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Establish and enforce SOPs, QMS, and compliance processes as per NABL/ISO 17025:2017, MoEFCC, and CPCB guidelines.
  • Ensure audit readiness and successful closure of NABL, MoEF, CPCB, and statutory inspections.

Strategic Management & Business Development

  • Support management in business expansion by evaluating project feasibility, budget estimations, and providing technical expertise for tendering and proposals.
  • Partner with the Business Development team to provide technical inputs, client presentations, and innovative solutions in emerging areas such as fly ash management, carbon capture, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Liaise with government authorities (SPCB, CPCB, MoEFCC) and industry bodies to strengthen regulatory alignment and compliance.

Team & People Management

  • Lead and mentor a PAN-India team of chemists, field technician etc (~5070 members).
  • Build capabilities through training, skill enhancement, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with HR and Commercial functions for manpower planning, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.

Quality, Safety & Sustainability

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, health, and environmental protocols in laboratory and field operations.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, ethical practices, and innovation in environmental management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Ph.D./M.Sc. in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related discipline. PG Diploma/MBA in Environment Management or EHS preferred.

  • Experience: years in environmental testing, monitoring, and laboratory operations, with at least 5-7 years in a managerial role.

  • Strong knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, NABL accreditation, MoEFCC requirements, and statutory environmental laws.
  • Proven expertise in laboratory set-up, project commissioning, and handling operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-location teams and engage with senior stakeholders, regulators, and clients.
