The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Director of Engineering to lead our Banking Technology initiatives in India. This is a critical leadership role with dual accountability: driving the delivery of our strategic Big Data and Reporting initiatives and leading the continued growth and operational excellence of our India engineering site.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned technology leader with a proven track record of building and managing high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of innovation, and delivering complex, impactful projects in a fast-paced environment. You will be instrumental in shaping our technology roadmap, enhancing developer productivity, and embedding next-generation technologies like Generative AI into our core processes and products.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Delivery (Big Data & Reporting)

• Drive Big Data and Reporting Initiatives: Lead the strategy, architecture, and delivery of large-scale big data platforms and sophisticated reporting solutions for the banking sector. This includes leveraging extensive datasets for insights, risk management, fraud detection, and regulatory compliance.
• Technical Vision: Define and execute the technical roadmap for big data and reporting, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and industry best practices.
• Innovation: Identify and champion new technologies and approaches to enhance data processing, analytics, and reporting capabilities, particularly in real-time analytics and predictive modeling.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product owners, business stakeholders, and other engineering leaders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure successful delivery.

Site Leadership & Operational Excellence (India)

• Lead India Engineering Site: Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the entire engineering organization in India, fostering a strong culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Talent Management: Attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent, building high-performing and engaged teams. Mentor and coach engineering managers and individual contributors.
• Process Improvement & Efficiency: Champion continuous process improvements across the software development lifecycle (SDLC) to enhance developer productivity, streamline workflows, and optimize resource allocation.
• DevOps & Automation: Drive the adoption and maturity of DevOps practices and extensive automation across all engineering functions, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure management, ensuring high-quality, secure, and rapid software delivery.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, resilient, and secure software solutions that meet stringent banking industry standards and regulatory requirements. i

Generative AI Integration

• Embed GenAI in Development: Strategically integrate Generative AI tools and methodologies into the software development lifecycle to enhance efficiency, automate code generation, improve testing, and accelerate prototyping.
• GenAI in Functional Deliverables: Explore and implement GenAI solutions for functional deliverables, such as enhancing client experiences, fraud detection models, risk assessment, and personalized banking services.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (Director level or equivalent) managing large, multi-functional engineering teams.
• Extensive experience in the banking or financial services technology sector in India.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale big data and reporting initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience in leading and scaling engineering sites, including talent acquisition, development, and retention.
• Strong experience in implementing and maturing DevOps practices and driving automation.
• Experience with the strategic application and embedding of Generative AI in software development and functional applications.

Technical Skills

• Deep expertise with Big Data technologies, particularly Cloudera Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, Spark).
• Strong proficiency in Tableau, Java and Angular for full-stack application development.
• Familiarity with Starburst (Trino) is a significant plus, especially its application in real-time analytics and data virtualization for financial services.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and scalable system development.
• Proficiency in modern software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum).

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.

• Strong understanding of financial industry regulations and compliance requirements.

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
