Role & responsibilities

Primary Purpose of Job:

Contribute to STANTECs business goals by providing technical expertise and leadership on projects concerned with geometric improvements relating to both urban and rural transportation. Bring work into the business by building trusted business relations and by delivering excellence on every project. Act as and/or support the project technical lead (PTL) to ensure that project outcomes on Transportation projects meet both the client and STANTEC expectations. Provide technical support and guide a team of Bridge, Traffic, Aviation, Highway Engineers and CAD Designers in delivering high quality projects in line with the expectations of our colleagues globally. Grow the team in Pune through innovation and proactive initiatives and develop the Pune Transportation team as a centre of excellence to support our business globally. Assist the Senior Leadership Team in Pune in matters such as resource management, engineering process development and forward-looking plans.

The Pune Transportation Lead will be accountable for the project management, staff management, mentoring, training, overall performance, and technical delivery for the Pune Transportation team, working closely with counterparts globally as required. Transportation lead is also expected to be an ambassador for the Pune Transportation group, meet project & client expectations and promote a continually improving perception of the teams to our customers for technical delivery.

Key Accountabilities:

• Ensure delivery of project in accordance with to technical quality standards, timescales and budget.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships through excellent project performance.
• Produce calculations, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical designs will provide appropriate solution
• Check design, cost estimation and risk assessment calculations, and review detailed drawings.
• Develop innovative skillsets to help STANTEC stay ahead of the competition.
• Carry out the role of task manager on assigned projects to deliver the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards.
• Coordinate with colleagues on global project delivery, proposals, and resourcing requirements.
• Undertake the role of senior designer/reviewer, applying technical expertise in areas of excellence.
• Carry out line management of Pune Transportation team
• Carry out quality design checks and reviews of others work as required.
• Maintain and grow the skill base of staff and team strength as per Strategic plan
• Complete all work in line with STANTEC Core Values and in accordance with the STANTEC Quality Systems and Project Quality Procedures.
• Other duties as requested from time to time by the Engineering Director.

Preferred candidate profile

Person Specifications:

Stantec need someone who is professionally qualified, ideally CPEng, P.E. with a minimum of 15 years experience in transportation and a sound understanding of the consulting business. Your financial acumen is a given, you have a proven track record in leading/delivering projects, and you enjoy fostering client relationships.

• Qualified Civil Engineer/ Transportation Engineer with minimum of 15 years' relevant design experience.
• Minimum 12 years' professional experience in the consulting and engineering industry after graduate education, technical expertise in road and highway design.
• Sound knowledge of all aspects of the technical standards
• Experience of successfully delivering the Transportation projects/schemes
• Fully competent technical specialist able to maintain high professional standards
• Travel to various regions as required & other job demands.
• Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work in a highly matrixed environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to make decisions independently and strong problem resolutions skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, technical specialist and Discipline leads across globe.
• Strong desire to promote virtual teams and to foster knowledge management, capture and sharing across the Design group.
• A "Can Do" attitude with a strong delivery focus especially in the area of enhanced processes for reducing design effort.
• Excellent understanding of quality principles and the application of Quality Management Systems.
• A sound knowledge of the development of delivery processes, in particular the ability to understand methods of performance evaluation and improvement implementation.
• High level of project management, i.e.: have the skills necessary to manage a program or project, includes managing relationship with project associates and project tasks, budgets, scope and risk etc.
• Expert level of client service management, i.e.: able to interface with internal clients and to build and maintain lasting, positive relationships with our Clients.
• High levels of decision making, i.e. able to make quality business decisions as well as to identify, assess, evaluate and solve problems.
• High level of baseline skills, ie: professional and confident with the essential, basic business and communication skills that are required for career growth in all positions.
