Job Description:

A Shift Incharge in the RMHS (Raw Material Handling System) and Coal Washery of a steel plant is responsible for overseeing the smooth and efficient operation of their respective areas during a designated shift. This includes managing personnel, monitoring equipment, ensuring quality control, and maintaining safety and environmental compliance. 

Key Responsibilities of a Shift Incharge in RMHS:

  • Material Management:
    Ensuring the proper handling, storage, and flow of raw materials like iron ore, coal, and fluxes.


  • Equipment Operation:
    Overseeing the operation of equipment like conveyors, crushers, and other machinery within the RMHS.


  • Safety and Environmental Compliance:
    Enforcing safety protocols, conducting safety checks, and ensuring adherence to environmental regulations.


  • Personnel Management:
    Supervising and coordinating the activities of the RMHS team during the shift.


  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
    Identifying and addressing any operational issues or equipment malfunctions within the RMHS.


  • Record Keeping:
    Maintaining accurate records of production data, equipment performance, and any incidents. 



Key Responsibilities of a Shift Incharge in Coal Washery:

  • Shift Operations Management:
    Overseeing the entire coal washing process during the assigned shift, ensuring smooth operation and optimal performance.


  • Quality Control:
    Monitoring the quality of coal being processed and taking corrective actions to address any quality issues.


  • Equipment Monitoring:
    Ensuring all equipment and systems within the washery are functioning correctly and addressing any malfunctions.


  • Personnel Management:
    Supervising and coordinating the activities of the coal washery team during the shift.


  • Safety and Environmental Compliance:
    Enforcing safety protocols, monitoring environmental compliance, and addressing any incidents or concerns. 



General Responsibilities for both roles:

  • Coordination:
    Collaborating with other departments, such as maintenance and logistics, to ensure seamless operations.


  • Reporting:
    Preparing regular reports on operational performance, KPIs, and any relevant incidents.


  • Emergency Response:
    Developing and implementing emergency response plans for their respective areas.


  • Training and Mentoring:
    Providing guidance and training to shift personnel and contributing to their professional development.


  • Continuous Improvement:
    Identifying opportunities for improvement in processes, efficiency, and safety within their areas of responsibility. 



These responsibilities require strong leadership, technical skills, and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure. The Shift Incharge plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the steel plant's RMHS and coal washery.
