The Role : Data Engineer

VML is looking for a passionate and skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic team in Mumbai.

You will be instrumental in building, optimizing, and maintaining our data infrastructure and pipelines, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, and ready for advanced analytics and client solutions.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design and Development : Develop, construct, test, and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient ETL/ELT data pipelines to ingest data from various sources into our data warehouse.

- Cloud Engineering : Implement and manage data solutions utilizing core Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including BigQuery for warehousing, and Cloud Run/Scheduler for orchestration and execution.

- Data Modeling & Transformation : Apply proficiency in SQL and tools like dbt (data build tool) to perform complex data manipulation, transformation, and implement dimensional and relational data models.

- Code & Infrastructure : Write high-quality, maintainable, and well-documented code primarily in Python.

Apply infrastructure-as-code principles to manage and provision cloud resources.

- Collaboration : Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions that support business intelligence and client-facing products.

- Quality & Governance : Ensure data quality, reliability, and security across all data systems.

- Implement version control best practices using Git.

- Optimization : Continuously monitor and optimize data pipeline performance, data storage, and resource utilization for cost-effectiveness and speed.

Essential Skills & Experience (Must Have) :

- Experience : 13 years of professional experience in data engineering or a similar highly technical role.

- Cloud Expertise : Hands-on, practical experience with core Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, specifically BigQuery, Cloud Run, and Cloud Scheduler.

- Programming : Strong programming skills in Python.

- Database & Modeling : Proficiency in SQL for complex data manipulation and analysis, along with a solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling.

- Transformation : Experience with dbt (data build tool) for data transformation workflows.

- DevOps Principles : Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code principles.

- Tools : Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).

- Soft Skills : Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude.

- Work Style : Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Additional Skills (Nice to Have) :

- IaC Tooling : Experience with Terraform for provisioning and managing infrastructure-as-code.

- Integration : Experience with API Development for data ingestion or exposure.

- Streaming : Knowledge of streaming data processing concepts and technologies (e.g., Kafka, Pub/Sub).

- Automation : Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment.

- Certifications : Relevant GCP certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Certified - Professional Data Engineer)
