The Role

We are seeking a Senior WordPress Developer with advanced expertise in performance tuning, plugin optimisation, custom coding, and security hardening. You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving performance, scalability, and security challenges across existing WordPress websites—many of which are currently overloaded with plugins and drag-and-drop elements such as Elementor. This role is critical in preparing our platforms for a future migration to a modern technology stack while ensuring they meet the stringent compliance requirements of the healthcare sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Audit and streamline existing WordPress installations across medical and non-medical verticals
• Identify and remove unnecessary plugins, replacing them with clean, efficient, custom code
• Refactor Elementor-heavy pages to reduce DOM size and improve load speed and Core Web Vitals
• Implement advanced caching strategies (object caching, browser caching), lazy loading, and image optimisation
• Optimise MySQL databases, WP cron jobs, and heartbeat controls for peak performance
• Apply industry-leading security measures: 2FA, HTTPS, server hardening, and GDPR compliance
• Collaborate with DevOps to integrate CDN solutions (Cloudflare/AWS CloudFront) and best-practice deployment processes
• Work closely with compliance teams to ensure HIPAA-grade data security for MedTech properties
• Maintain clean, well-documented code and follow Git-based CI/CD workflows

Required Skills & Experience

• 6+ years of advanced WordPress development (themes, plugins, and custom functions)
• Expert knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, and WordPress Codex
• Proven ability to reduce load times and improve Core Web Vitals across high-traffic sites
• Proficiency with caching tools (WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache), CDNs, and image optimisation solutions
• Experience with security tools (Wordfence, iThemes), SSL configuration, and GDPR alignment
• Skilled in Git, staging workflows, and deployment automation
• Ability to accurately interpret and implement Figma (or similar) UI/UX designs into pixel-perfect, responsive WordPress builds without reliance on heavy page builders
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with designers, DevOps, and backend engineers

Nice to Have

• Previous experience with telecom or regulated MedTech platforms
• Understanding of headless CMS architecture or React-based migration planning
• Knowledge of HIPAA, OWASP Top 10, and compliance best practices
• Experience working across global time zones
