Formulation Scientist

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Product Formulation**: Develop and optimize prescription and OTC skincare formulations, including creams, ointments, gels, and lotions, for the treatment of dermatological conditions.
- **Raw Material Selection**: Identify, evaluate, and source raw materials and active ingredients, ensuring safety, stability, and efficacy in skincare formulations.
- **Research and Development**: Conduct research on new ingredients, technologies, and delivery systems that enhance the effectiveness and quality of dermatological products.
- **Prototype Development**: Create prototypes and scale up formulations from laboratory bench scale to pilot production while ensuring consistency and stability.
- **Stability Testing**: Conduct stability testing of formulations to ensure product performance over time and under various conditions.
- **Regulatory Compliance**: Ensure all formulations meet relevant regulatory requirements, including FDA regulations for both prescription and OTC products.
- **Cross-functional Collaboration**: Work closely with cross-functional teams including regulatory, quality assurance, manufacturing, and marketing to ensure smooth product development and commercialization.
- **Documentation**: Maintain detailed records of formulation processes, experiments, and results, and prepare documentation for regulatory submissions.
- **Problem Solving**: Troubleshoot formulation issues, including stability problems, texture modifications, and ingredient incompatibilities.
- **Clinical Efficacy**: Collaborate with clinical teams to develop protocols for testing the efficacy and safety of formulations for skin conditions.
- **Quality Control**: Work with the quality assurance team to ensure that all products meet the required quality standards, including consistency in appearance, feel, and efficacy.
- **Packaging Development**: Collaborate with packaging engineers to ensure that the packaging is compatible with the formulated products and that it protects product integrity.

**Qualifications and Skills**:

- **Educational Background**: PhD or Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cosmetic Chemistry, Chemistry, or related fields.
- **Formulation Experience**: 3-5 years of experience in the formulation of prescription and/or OTC dermatological or skincare products.
- **Technical Expertise**: Strong knowledge of topical drug delivery systems, emulsions, and semi-solid formulations, including creams, gels, lotions, and ointments.
- **Regulatory Knowledge**: Familiarity with regulatory guidelines, particularly FDA regulations related to prescription and OTC skincare products.
- **Analytical Skills**: Proficient in the use of analytical tools and techniques to evaluate product performance, stability, and ingredient interactions.
- **Innovation**: Ability to innovate and develop new skincare formulations that meet the latest trends and scientific advancements.
- **Problem Solving**: Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve formulation challenges.
- **Attention to Detail**: Meticulous in maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring that formulations meet the highest quality standards.
- **Communication Skills**: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present scientific data and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

**Preferred Experience**:

- Experience working with active ingredients like retinoids, corticosteroids, adapalene, Clindamycin, hydroquinone, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, etc.
- Familiarity with developing formulations for sensitive or compromised skin types.
- Experience with transdermal delivery systems and other advanced technologies.
- Prior experience in scaling up formulations for commercial production.
