Security Officer

Org. Setting and Reporting
- The position is in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). The Security Officer will be based in Goma. Under the overall supervision of the Principal Security Advisor (PSA), the Security Training Officer, FS-5 reports to the Chief Security Officer on all security training activities within the Security Management System in the DRC.
- Responsibilities
- Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Officer, FS-5, may be responsible for the following duties: - Assists the PSA/DPSA/CSO in the supervision and management of the Security Training Unit - Leads the Security Training Unit in delivery of training within the security section and to non-security personnel in line with the missions training framework. - Leads/Facilitator security training conducted for Agencies, Funds, Programmes and Organizations of the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS) in the DRC. - Identifies training gaps within the Integrated Security Workforce through training needs assessments and advice on areas for change or modification as required. - Provides information and recommendations to be included in the security training reports for all learning programmes in the mission - Ensures that all venues and logistics required for the training and learning activities are sourced for and provided for training needs of the Mission and other UNSMS entities. - Prepares Statements of Requirement and provides technical specifications for the training unit’s equipment; and works with the relevant sections to ensure its purchase, maintenance and deployment in line with relevant policies and procedures. - Facilitates UN DSS standardized training programmes of instructions delivered at the mission/country level - Implements the firearms certification plan and standards and maintain records of security officer firearms qualifications - Maintain control and inventory of security equipment including weapons and ammunition in Goma - Performs other duties as required.

- High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate
- Job - Specific Qualification
- UNDSS Close Protection Officer Certification is required. UN DSS certification in any of the following is desirable : UNDSS Training of Trainer (ToT); Advanced defensive driver trainer; UNDSS Security Trainers development course (TDC); Safe and Secure Approach in Field Environment (SSAFE) Instructor; Emergency Trauma Bag (ETB) Instructor; Basic defense tactics certification (BDTC) instructor; Security Certification Programme (SCP); Security Analysis Practice and Process (SAPP); Hostage Incident Management (HIM); Certification as Firearms training instructor (FTI) or Firearms training officer (FTO) is required.
- Work Experience
- At least five (5) years of experience in security training, planning, and operations is required Experience in the design and delivery of training programmes is required. At least three (3) years’ experience at the international level in a conflict or post conflict environment is required.
- Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and French is required.
