**Job Title**: Freelance Researcher - LULC (Land Use and Land Cover) Classification

**Job Purpose**: To develop accurate Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) classifications from 2000 to 2023 using machine learning classifiers on Google Earth Engine (GEE). This includes evaluating the effectiveness of stratified training sampling techniques, assessing groundwater quantity and quality impacts of LULC changes, and comparing results across urban (Bangalore) and semi-urban/rural (Kolar) regions in Karnataka, India.

**Required Qualification**:

- Master’s or Ph. D. degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, GIS, Urban Planning, or a related field.

**Tools to be Familiar**:

- GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar).
- Remote Sensing tools (ERDAS Imagine, ENVI).
- Data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar).
- Satellite imagery platforms (Google Earth Engine, Sentinel Hub, Landsat).
- Data processing and programming tools (Python, R, or MATLAB with GIS libraries).

**Required Experience**:

- Minimum 2 years of experience in LULC mapping, classification, or analysis.
- Hands-on experience working with satellite imagery and spatial datasets.
- Proven track record of creating thematic maps and analyzing spatial-temporal changes in LULC.

**Required Knowledge/Skills**:

- Proficient in stratified training sample generation and analysis.
- Understanding of IGBP thematic class standards.
- Familiarity with multi-temporal satellite image analysis.
- Knowledge of LULC impact on groundwater systems using CGWB datasets and field sampling.
- Competence in reporting, data visualization, and spatial-temporal change interpretation.

**1. Data Collection & Preprocessing**:

- Acquire multi-temporal satellite datasets (2000-2023) for Bangalore and Kolar.
- Preprocess data: noise reduction, dereferencing, and image classification preparation.
- Collect CGWB data on groundwater and perform field sampling for quality assessment**.**

**2. Classification & Analysis**:

- Implement supervised classification using Random Forest and compare against RVM and other classifiers.
- Evaluate classifiers' performance using stratified sampling methods.
- Classify LULC into 5 classes: Built-up area, Agriculture/Crop land, Dense Vegetation, Water bodies/Wetlands, and Barren Land.

**3. Groundwater Impact Assessment**:

- Analyze LULC's effect on groundwater quantity using historical CGWB data.
- Assess quality using pre
- and post-monsoon water samples and standard parameter testing, including heavy metal concentration.

**4. Comparative Regional Study**:
Compare LULC and groundwater impacts between Bangalore (urban) and Kolar (semi-urban/rural).

**5. Reporting & Deliverables**:

- Generate detailed maps, classification accuracy tables, and spatial trend visualizations.
- Prepare final documentation summarizing methodology, results, and implications.
