The role of an Accounts Supervisor in an apparel manufacturing company is to oversee and manage the financial and accounting activities specific to the apparel industry. This position requires a strong understanding of apparel manufacturing processes, inventory management, and cost accounting. The Accounts Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, monitoring production costs, and providing financial guidance to support the company's overall financial goals.
**Responsibilities**:
1. Supervise Accounting Team: Lead and manage a team of accountants, including assigning tasks, setting goals, providing training and development opportunities, and conducting performance evaluations.
2. Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial statements specifically tailored to the apparel manufacturing industry, such as cost of goods sold, production costs, and inventory valuation. Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
3. Cost Accounting: Oversee the cost accounting function, including tracking production costs, analyzing variances, and providing insights to optimize manufacturing efficiency and cost control.
4. Inventory Management: Develop and maintain inventory tracking systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date recording of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods. Conduct periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile inventory records.
5. Accounts Payable and Receivable: Supervise the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions specific to apparel manufacturing. Ensure timely processing of vendor payments, accurate recording of customer invoices, and effective management of vendor and customer accounts.
6. Production Budgeting and Cost Control: Collaborate with production and operations teams to develop production budgets and monitor costs throughout the manufacturing process. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to improve operational efficiency.
7. Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data related to production costs, inventory levels, and sales performance. Provide meaningful insights to management, identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and support decision-making for improving financial performance.
8. Internal Controls: Establish and maintain internal control procedures specific to apparel manufacturing, ensuring proper segregation of duties and safeguarding of company assets. Conduct periodic audits to identify and address any control deficiencies.
9. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations, such as labor laws, import/export regulations, and environmental standards. Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and communicate the impact to relevant stakeholders.
10. Relationship Management: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as production managers, procurement teams, and executives, to provide financial guidance and support. Build relationships with external partners, such as auditors, banks, and suppliers.
**Requirements**:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., CPA, CMA) are a plus.
- Proven work experience in accounting or finance, with at least 4-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role within the apparel manufacturing industry.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards (e.g., GAAP) specific to the apparel industry.
- Familiarity with apparel manufacturing processes, including costing methods, inventory management, and production budgeting.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems. Experience with industry-specific software (e.g., apparel ERP systems) is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial and operational data and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to maintaining the integrity of financial records specific to apparel manufacturing.
- Effective leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements, such as labor laws, import/export regulations, and environmental standards.
