I. Plan, Develop & Implement:
- Contribute to the development of counseling procedure in alignment with the school’s vision, mission and objectives
- Ensure the counseling procedures are customized and tailor-made to suit the needs of the particular age group and meet up the challenges of the relevant developmental stages
- Develop well-designed and learner-centered learning engagements
II. Teaching Approach:
- Help impart knowledge to the students as per the defined curriculum
- Implement best teaching practices to enhance student-learning processes
- Prepare each student for academic, social and personal success, which are the objectives of GSIS
- Counsellor to ensure middle school students are academically, socially, and emotionally prepared for High School and beyond
- The students are not only emphasized for academic success as essential to the educational process, but educate them that it is not the only area students can excel in
- Guide the students in molding thoughtful, empathetic, and forward thinking, by providing them with a greater opportunity for success in all walks of life
- Maintain a close working relationship and liaise with the Teachers, Parents and Administration to provide a more vivid picture of each student’s strengths and areas of improvement
- Provide academic guidance and support, including the monitoring of academic performance, facilitating communication between school and home
- Provide career awareness, exploration and planning, including goal setting and decision making assistance for students
- Responsible for helping students to gain an understanding of themselves and the situations facing them and to help them develop strategies to cope with change especially in a residential setting
- Support the emotional health and holistic development of the student
- Counsellors to use ‘Eclectic’ approach to Counseling
- Act as facilitators and the students should be encouraged to speak out their feelings and emotions
- Help the students to introspect their feelings, behavior and actions and the Counsellor through interactions and sessions help the students find alternative solutions or options to deal with their problems
- Ensure one-on-one counseling is provided to the students on a regular basis, take session in the counsellor’s office whenever the need arises
- Visit the students dormitories regularly, monitoring their academic performance and co-curricular activities, checking on their eating habits and offering suggestions for improvement wherever required for holistic growth
- Bring about the best in each and every student under their care through varied procedures and roles in the section
- Take group sessions to inculcate values and ethics for life and to address common and growing up life skill issues
- Take self management therapy mainly to provide the students to handle Stress, hyperactivity, disturbed thoughts and sleeplessness
- Mentor and nurture students by providing appropriate guidance, motivation and intellectual support
- Identify appropriate learning approaches which are constructive or integrative, collaborative and reflective
- Design future learning and teaching based on the reflections
- Establish and maintain effective classroom management through connection, consistency and compassion
- The activities and experiences need to be adapted keeping in view the individual differences among children and their innate potentials, as well as the students with special needs
- Take remedial measures to strengthen the students learning wherever required based on the students ability
III. Assessment and Feedback:
- Plan and implement effective assessment for/of learning which enhances outcomes for students
- Design programme tests and assessment tasks as required
- Manage the appropriate students records in the Managebac- Personality tests and inventories to be administered for all the students during the academic year. This helps them to know the traits that are dominant in them and vocations are suggested based on these traits- Provide oral and written feedback to students and other stakeholders
