**Role Description**

The Principal Technologist has up-to-date and progressive technical skills. They understand the innovations being made in multiple industries and can see opportunities to incorporate these approaches into the bank’s best practices. They are aware of the gap in current technical solutions and where industry innovations are along the maturity lifecycle, and then choose the right balance between speed-to-market and risk aversion solutions. They are very experienced in multiple technical disciplines and can both, guide and challenge domain experts effectively, given their wider appreciation of bigger problems. They have a deep understanding of development methodologies and can work closely with Engineering to develop holistic production focused robust processes to improve implementation, enhance operational readiness and improve ease of maintaining the environment, for delivering change into production and also its subsequent maintenance. They contribute or formulate the remediation of audit points and self-identified issues that increase the bank’s risk. Their banking experience is strong and they can appreciate the differing challenges faced by many internal stakeholders. Using their knowledge of the complex environments, they are able to offer standardised solutions across areas, break down siloes and rationalise bad practice. They are well respected and relied upon to resolve issues where other skilled technicians have failed. They train and coach technical teams and individuals in new technologies and are respected contributors to internal and external forums, fostering a passion for technology. The Principal Technologist understands business financials and can provide business case input that helps drive innovative and cost effective solutions. They are involved in level 3 support activities for major outages and can coordinate solutions with suppliers in the industry. They are responsible for developing technical roadmaps and ensure compliance in the production environment. They ensure that all technical solutions work together in an integrated fashion.

**Your key responsibilities**

**Your skills and experience**
- Relevant eight to ten years of working experience.
- Good understanding of enterprise network architecture, components, tools and design
- Experience with a broad range and network and performance management tools and metrics
- Proficient understanding of the Linux operating system
- Proficient in Java, with a good knowledge of its ecosystems
- Good understanding of SNMP and related technologies (MiBS, ASN, OID)
- Experience with Oracle (management and SQL)
- Good understanding of object-oriented programming
- Familiar with various design and architectural patterns
- Skill for writing reusable Java libraries
- Knowledge of concurrency patterns in Java
- Familiarity with concepts of MVC, JDBC, and RESTful
- Experience with Hibernate and Spring frameworks
- Creating database schemas that represent and support business processes
- Implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git and SVN
- Familiarity with build tools such as Ant and Maven
- Excellent verbal communication and written skills
- Experience with analysing and forecasting network connectivity, hardware and software (Router, Switches, Checkpoint Firewall, load balancer, DNS/DHCP, etc.)
- Develop network capacity forecast against demand.
- Good understanding of Network stats (eg packet discards) and monitoring tools (eg Netflow)
- Familiarity with network terminology eg QoS; MPLS;BGP
- Liaison with Network operations, deployment and engineering regionally and globally for support and resolution.
- Working knowledge of MS Office especially MS Excel and Power point. Familiarity with Excel functions, pivots, charts/graphs. Preference for knowledge in automation using VBA.
- Proficiency in analytical skills. Good Understanding of aggregation functions and logic to be able to create summary reports
- Good understating of Project Management concepts; IT Services and Network concepts
- Familiarity with Incident and Problem management system/concept
- Understanding of ITIL framework
