The requirements for a counsellor

1. Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (mandatory for most roles).

- Ability to establish trust and rapport with clients.
- Compassionate and patient approach to dealing with sensitive issues.

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills
- Ability to analyze problems and develop actionable solutions.
- Critical thinking for assessing client needs and designing intervention plans.

Technical Skills
- Familiarity with counselling tools, techniques, and frameworks (e.g., CBT, psychodynamic therapy, or motivational interviewing).
- Proficiency in maintaining client records and using counselling software (if applicable).

3. Experience
- Entry-Level Roles: Internships or practical experience in counselling settings.
- Experienced Roles: 1-3 years of professional counselling experience in schools, workplaces, or mental health clinics.

4. Personality Traits
- Empathy and non-judgmental attitude.
- High emotional intelligence (EQ).
- Strong ethical and confidentiality standards.
- Patience, resilience, and adaptability to handle diverse clients and issues.

5. Knowledge Requirements
- Understanding of human behavior, development, and psychological principles.
- Awareness of cultural sensitivity and diversity issues.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and ethical guidelines (e.g., client confidentiality, mandatory reporting).

6. Licensing and Certifications (if applicable)

7. Working Conditions
- Flexibility to work with clients during evenings or weekends.
