**JOB PURPOSE**:
To be part of a team providing 24 hour medical cover and immediate first line resuscitation to any hospital patient, visitor or staff member as required.

To assist in the management of patients and provide back-up support to the consultant.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**:
v A professional approach must be adapted with all patients, staff and visitors.

v To provide medical cover, routine and emergency, during hours of duty and work in conjunction with the other specialties to serve the institute.

v Follow all Clinical safety, hygiene, infection control protocols to be adhered to (eg wearing gloves when required, aprons, hand hygiene, Changing of Scrubs in and out of OT/ ICU area, etc)

v They can order and interpret investigation test.

v Provide instructions and guidance regarding medical care matters to patients.

v Physician Assistant may work in any setting that is within the scope of his or her supervising physician’s/Surgeon’s practice

v They May perform the drawing of arterial, venous or peripheral blood and the routine examination of the blood, Pre and post-op care, and assist in surgeries, Wound debridement Removal of sutures.

v Physician Assistant may not perform any procedure but can assist in surgeries.
