• JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Assisting in attending all patient admissions in the wards, take a detailed history, examine the patient, inform the respective consultants, and initiate treatment

• Assisting to write down patient's clinical details and treatment, in the patients indoor papers and inform the same to respective staff nurse to carry out the orders.

• To inform all new admissions also to the respective clinical associates and registrars available.

• Assisting in filling the investigation forms e.g. X-ray, USG, CT, MRI, histopathology/culture, physiotherapy etc. If required take appointments for investigations e.g. USG, CT, MRI, 2D-ECHO on phone and co-ordinate with the respective nursing staff about the same in order to send the patient accordingly.

• Assisting in taking patient's consent for certain investigations e.g. MRI, CT, FNAC, HIV and for any procedure done.

• To attend rounds with the consultants, inform reviews and references to them.

• Assisting in procuring lab/diagnostic reports and inform them to the consultants and make necessary changes in the treatment as per consultant's orders.

• Assist to update the consultant's instructions into patient's file.

• Assist in performing minor procedures on patient like dressing, catheterization, suture removal, collection of blood for ABG, port insertion for chemotherapy, Ryles tube insertion etc.

• To attend all patient calls, all post-op cases, ICU transfer-ins and ward transfer-ins/outs and inform the respective consultant

• For ICU transfer patients, the PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT needs to accompany the patient to the ICU and give complete details of the patient to the ICU registrars.

• Assist in preparing computerized discharge cards for the respective patient discharged

• Assist in filling pre-authorization forms for the patient with mediclaim facility

• To attend to all queries of the patient and patient's relatives related to patient's condition on a day-to-day basis, provide proper guidance and counseling to them. They will provide them with information regarding the treatment given, further line of action, admission, transfers and in case of death as per consultants orders.

• To be on duty till the reliever comes and give proper bedside over of the patient to the next on duty.

• To fill up SSI form, show it to Reporting Supervisor.

• Any leave taken or exchange in duty made should be informed in advance to the respective floor well in advance.

• To get justification for prolonged stay form filled by the consultants

• Making all the pre-requisite arrangements for any procedure to be done by consultants e.g pleural tapping, bone marrow aspiration

• To attend all CME activities of hospital without hampering the ward work

• Physician Assistant on night duty should be present on floors during their entire duty hours.

• Evening/night Physician Assistant should plan out the discharge list for the next day in consultation with the primary consultant. With input from the consultant doctor in charge night Physician Assistant should prepare and should keep the discharge card ready before 8.00 am.

• To do any other duties assigned by the administration from time to time

• To wear formal dress and aprons when on duty

Skill Sets: -

Verbal Ability

• Ability to comprehend verbal instructions given by the supervisor or head of the department.
• Ability to communicate with patient relatives / attendants clearly and with compassion

Other Skills

• Have an affinity for teamwork.
• Able to work accurately and with supervision.
• Technical skills required for using and maintaining the various equipments and the HIS.
• Ability to plan & organize ones work schedule effectively.
