We are seeking a bright and highly motivated markets reporter to cover FX and rates for our Emerging Markets team, based in Mumbai. As trading in India gains prominence on the global stage, this is an opportunity to be at the forefront of the action. The beat covers everything from the daily buzz and intricacy of South Asia's local markets to the much broader theme of India's place in international investment portfolios. A dynamic and fast-paced role, it requires the ability to break news and draw on deep market knowledge for stories and analysis aimed at both local experts and the broader global audience.

You'll work closely with our team of reporters and editors both locally and across the region, pouncing on price action in currency, bond and money markets to write spot news and analysis. You'll also follow the markets' longer-term trends to write thematic stepback stories when appropriate. And you'll be expected to keep in touch with the smartest, biggest and most respected names in the market, bringing to our coverage a keen understanding of the financial market interplay with politics and economics.

**We'll trust you to**:
- Generate and craft concise, on-the-spot stories, capturing the elements of both “what’s happening” and “what it means” - against the backdrop of local and global trends
- Cultivate a broad network of investors, traders and other market participants as sources to help break news and build deeper stories
- Identify and interpret broader themes in currencies and rates, drawing upon expertise from across the market for impactful stories that set the agenda for investors and policymakers

**You'll need to have**:

- At least 3 years of recent experience in financial journalism or a markets role
- A proven track record for breaking news on beat coverage in finance, economics or markets or experience writing exclusive and insightful market commentary and analysis
- The ability to tap into a wide variety of contacts, ranging from traders and investors to the biggest money managers, government officials and policy makers
- A collaborative team spirit, the drive to innovate and a strong work ethic
- Fluency in both written and spoken English, with the ability to quickly produce copy that is accurate, engaging and on point
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organisation
