Below are the primary roles and responsibilities of an SPO in such a setup:
1. Community Engagement and Outreach
- Identify Target Groups: Locate and identify vulnerable populations, such as women, children, elderly, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities.
- Awareness Campaigns: Conduct health education and awareness programs about available medical services, preventive care, and social welfare schemes.
- Community Liaison: Act as a bridge between the healthcare team and the community to ensure trust and smooth service delivery.

2. Coordination and Networking
- Interagency Collaboration: Work with government bodies, NGOs, and local authorities to mobilize resources and provide holistic care.
- Referral System: Establish links with tertiary healthcare facilities or social welfare programs for cases requiring advanced care or social support.

3. Addressing Social Determinants of Health
- Needs Assessment: Assess social and economic factors affecting health, such as poverty, lack of education, or malnutrition.
- Resource Allocation: Facilitate access to government schemes, subsidies, or financial support for underserved populations.

4. Monitoring and Documentation
- Data Collection: Document cases, track beneficiaries, and maintain records of services provided by the MMU.
- Impact Assessment: Evaluate the effectiveness of outreach programs and report on key performance indicators.
- Feedback Mechanism: Gather feedback from the community to improve service delivery.

5. Capacity Building
- Training: Train local volunteers or healthcare workers on social protection schemes and community engagement.
- Empowerment: Empower communities to advocate for their own health and social protection rights.

6. Support During Emergencies
- Crisis Response: Provide social and psychological support during emergencies such as natural disasters, pandemics, or outbreaks.
- Rapid Needs Assessment: Identify urgent social protection needs and mobilize resources accordingly.

7. Advocacy and Policy Input
- Policy Recommendations: Advocate for better social protection policies based on ground realities.
- Rights Awareness: Promote awareness of human rights, particularly in healthcare access.
