The Liaison Officer for Public Works Department (PWD) Projects is responsible for facilitating communication, coordination, and collaboration between various stakeholders involved in public works projects, This role involves working closely with government agencies, contractors, engineers, architects, disability advocacy groups, and community members to ensure that PWD-related infrastructure projects are planned, implemented, and maintained effectively and inclusively. Below is a detailed job description outlining the responsibilities, qualifications, and skills required for the position:
**Responsibilities**:
Facilitate Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for communication between the Public Works Department, contractors, and other relevant stakeholders involved in PWD-related projects. Ensure clear and timely exchange of information, updates, and instructions.
Coordinate Project Activities: Coordinate meetings, site visits, and project planning sessions involving stakeholders such as engineers, architects, contractors, and representatives from PWD advocacy groups. Ensure alignment of project goals, timelines, and resource allocation.
Advocate for Accessibility: Advocate for the integration of universal design principles and accessibility standards in all stages of public works projects, from planning and design to construction and maintenance. Ensure that PWD-related needs and perspectives are considered and addressed.
Provide Expertise: Offer expertise and guidance on accessibility regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to public infrastructure projects. Advise project teams on inclusive design solutions and modifications to enhance accessibility for PWD.
Engage Stakeholders: Engage with PWD advocacy groups, community organizations, and individuals with disabilities to gather input, feedback, and concerns regarding public works projects. Facilitate meaningful participation and collaboration to ensure projects meet the diverse needs of the community.
Monitor Compliance: Monitor compliance with accessibility laws, regulations, and standards in all aspects of public works projects. Conduct regular inspections and assessments to identify barriers and ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
Resolve Issues: Address any issues or concerns related to accessibility and inclusion that arise during the planning, implementation, or maintenance of public works projects. Work collaboratively with stakeholders to find practical solutions and mitigate potential conflicts.
Document and Report: Maintain detailed records of project activities, decisions, and outcomes related to PWD initiatives. Prepare regular progress reports, status updates, and documentation to support accountability and transparency.
Promote Awareness: Raise awareness within the community and among stakeholders about the importance of accessibility and inclusion in public infrastructure projects. Provide educational materials, training sessions, and resources to support informed decision-making and action.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, architecture, urban planning, disability studies, public administration, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in accessibility or disability studies are desirable.
Experience: Previous experience in project management, public works administration, accessibility consulting, or related fields, with a focus on inclusive design and disability rights. Experience working with government agencies and community stakeholders is advantageous.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for building relationships and facilitating collaboration.
Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify barriers to accessibility and develop innovative solutions. Ability to think critically, adapt to changing circumstances, and navigate complex challenges in project implementation.
Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously. Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation are crucial for project success.
