1. Preparing Coffee Beverages: This is the primary responsibility of a barista. They must be able to prepare various types of coffee drinks such as espresso, cappuccino, latte, macchiato, and others according to the established recipes and standards.

2. Taking Orders: Baristas interact with customers to take their orders, providing recommendations when asked, and ensuring accuracy in fulfilling the orders.

3. Operating Coffee Equipment: Baristas operate coffee machines, grinders, and other equipment necessary for making coffee beverages. They must know how to calibrate these machines to produce the desired coffee quality.

4. Maintaining Cleanliness: Keeping the work area clean and organized is crucial in food and beverage service. Baristas are responsible for cleaning coffee equipment, countertops, and other areas regularly to maintain hygiene standards.

5. Stocking Supplies: Baristas monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, milk, syrups, cups, and other supplies. They restock these items as needed to ensure smooth operations.

6. Cash handling and Transactions: Baristas handle cash, credit/debit cards, and other payment methods. They must accurately process transactions, provide change, and maintain cash register records.

7. Customer Service: Providing excellent customer service is essential in the hospitality industry. Baristas should be friendly, attentive, and capable of addressing customer concerns or complaints promptly and professionally.

8. Menu Knowledge: Baristas need to have a good understanding of the menu offerings, including coffee drinks, pastries, and other items sold by the establishment. They should be able to answer customer questions about the menu and make recommendations.

9. Adhering to Health and Safety Regulations: Baristas must follow health and safety regulations to ensure the well-being of customers and coworkers. This includes proper food handling, sanitation practices, and compliance with relevant safety protocols.

10. Teamwork: In many cases, baristas work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. They need to collaborate with coworkers, communicate effectively, and assist each other during busy periods.
