**Job Description Summary**: Materials Organization of GE Research is at the forefront of building foundational understanding of structural and functional materials that is translated into enabling new product and services for GE. We use a combination of experimental and modeling methods towards accelerated discovery, development, and deployment of material solutions.

**Essential Responsibilities**

Problem solving across the spectrum of Discovery, Development, and Deployment of high-performance ceramic and functional materials

Develop coatings solutions that provide thermal/environmental protection

Network across GE to understand critical business problems that require materials and manufacturing based solutions; build program plans and execute

Constant awareness of mega-trends in the world, and the materials solutions that are needed to enable these mega-trends

**Qualifications and Requirements**

Masters degree in Materials Science, chemistry, ceramics with 2+ years research experience in discovery and/or development of new chemistries/materials

Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, phase-equilibria, materials synthesis

Good publication and/or patent record.

Should be able to quote clear past examples for the following
- Good teaming skills and ability to work with wide range of technical teams and projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

**Desired Characteristics**
- Knowledge of thermal and environmental barrier coatings - composition and process
- Knowledge of chemistry-processing-structure-property relationships in TBC, EBC and hard coatings
- An understanding of thermal oxidation of fuels/oils
- Expertise in microstructural analysis and representation
- Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to bring assignments to a successful completion
- Ability to anticipate customer needs and ensure that they are met
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
