**Job Summary**:
The Billing and Insurance Specialist is responsible for managing patient billing, insurance claims, and payment collection. This role ensures accurate processing of medical claims, timely reimbursement from insurance providers, and effective resolution of billing discrepancies.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Review and verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to services.
- Submit accurate claims to insurance companies (electronic and paper formats).
- Follow up on unpaid claims, denials, and appeals to ensure maximum reimbursement.
- Post payments, adjustments, and denials in the billing system.
- Respond to insurance and patient inquiries regarding billing and coverage.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, procedures, and billing regulations (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers).
- Coordinate with clinical and administrative staff to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Prepare patient statements and assist with payment plans or collections as needed.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or certification in Medical Billing/Coding is a plus).
- 1-3 years of experience in medical billing, insurance claims, or revenue cycle preferred.
- Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Knowledge of EHR and billing software (e.g., Epic, Athena, Medisoft, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

**Preferred Certifications**:

- Certified Professional Biller (CPB)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS)
