
Bus Mechanic

**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Preventive Maintenance**:
- Perform routine inspections and scheduled maintenance on buses, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid level checks.
- Inspect and maintain critical vehicle systems such as brakes, steering, suspension, transmission, and exhaust systems to ensure they are in optimal working condition.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities performed on each bus.
- **Diagnosing and Repairing Mechanical Issues**:
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems in buses using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and air conditioning units.
- Address engine performance issues, including fuel system problems, engine misfires, or overheating.
- **Emergency Repairs and Roadside Assistance**:
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide roadside assistance to ensure mínimal disruption to bus operations.
- Coordinate towing or transport of vehicles in case of major breakdowns and liaise with drivers to gather details of mechanical issues.
- **Safety and Compliance**:
- Ensure that all repairs and maintenance are conducted according to safety standards and government regulations, including emission controls and roadworthiness checks.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure all buses meet safety and operational standards.
- Stay informed of changes in vehicle regulations and standards, including emissions, environmental, and safety compliance.
- **Inventory and Parts Management**:
- Track and maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment needed for bus repairs and maintenance.
- Work with the maintenance manager to order necessary parts and supplies in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all parts and tools are properly stored and maintained.
- **Documentation and Reporting**:
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance schedules, parts used, and labor hours for each bus.
- Report vehicle performance issues, ongoing repairs, and completed tasks to the maintenance manager or fleet supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with vehicle inspection logs and service records for internal and external audits.
- **Team Collaboration**:
- Work closely with other mechanics, technicians, and the maintenance manager to ensure smooth operations.
- Provide guidance or assistance to junior mechanics or apprentices when necessary.
- Coordinate with drivers and fleet managers to report issues and track ongoing repairs.
- **Experience**:
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles, preferably buses or large commercial vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic components in buses.
- **Skills**:
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, power tools, and repair equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical diagrams, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Solid problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues.
- Strong communication skills to report issues and collaborate with team members.
