industry, and local communities across India to make the most dangerous roads safer.
Road crashes kill over 1.3 million people globally each year. India holds the dubious distinction of being
world number one in road crash deaths, with at least 150,000 fatalities and over one million serious
injuries per year. Most victims come from extremely poor backgrounds. Road crashes have emerged as
the number one cause of death for Indians in the age-group of 15-45, dealing a crushing blow to the
nation’s productivity and a loss of 3% to our GDP each year - an amount that can eradicate hunger from
India, twice over each year. Tragically, road crashes in India are also one of the biggest causes of death
for children under age 14, with over twenty fatalities each day, mostly in the vicinity of schools.

SLF operates at the intersection of policy-making and grassroots impact. We are best known for getting
India a Good Samaritan Law that encourages bystanders to help critically injured persons on the road,
expected to save 50% lives otherwise lost to preventable injuries. Most recently, SLF has delivered an
astounding 52% reduction in fatalities on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and a reduction of 69% on in
fatalities on the Old Mumbai - Pune Highway (NH-48) through a combination of measures ranging from
improved road engineering to technology-driven traffic enforcement to optimised trauma response - the
Zero Fatality Corridor (ZFC) model.**
**Role Overview:
This role is the most critical player in implementing SLF’s solution “Safe Highway in a Box”. The

incumbent is responsible to conduct investigation of every crash-incident on the allotted roads /

highways (“Zero Fatality Corridors”), as per procedures set-in-place and prepare crash
- investigation
- reports. He would maintain good relationship with concerned personnel at the Police

Stations, Government authorities and other stakeholders to garner necessary support and

information required to conduct the crash investigations & other activities of SLF. He would also be

responsible to oversee, support or conduct other activities planned by SLF on those areas, towards

improving road safety.

**Strategy & Planning**
- Appreciate and align to the larger purpose of SLF and be driven by it
- Contribute towards developing operational plans for the “Zero Fatality Corridors”

**Operational responsibilities
**Crash Investigation
- Keep good relationship with the key personnel at all the police stations around the

assigned
_Corridors _
- Keep track of road accidents / other significant incidents on these _Corridors _
- Arrive at the site of accident at the earliest and conduct thorough investigation following
- the standard procedures- Collect additional information from Police Stations / other offices
- Complete the Crash reconstruction manually with available data and support Crash
- Reconstruction on software (‘PC Crash’)- Complete the _Injury Coding and Crash Data Coding _and analyse the Crash / Injury
- Contributing Factors- Finalize Crash Investigation Report and submit for internal review

Support other Crash Investigations
- Provide necessary support to other team member(s) in conducting Crash Investigations,

analysing data and preparing reports
- Peer
- review Crash Investigation Reports prepared by others

Other interventions
- Work with Vendors / Monitor their activities to get other interventions done on the
- Roads as planned by SLF like installing road-signages, barricades, etc.- Support in getting official approvals from concerned authorities as required
- Support Road Safety Auditor to conduct planned Audits on the roadways

- Take initiative to learn new developments / innovations in Crash Investigation and other

road safety measures
- Contribute new ideas to strengthen the solution
- Support and provide necessary information to plan & propose additional interventions
- on the roadways- Make maximum use of Technology in the departmental processes
- Actively participate in organization initiatives, planning and review discussions
- Adhere to timelines of performance appraisals
