Your expertise as a DBA will be essential in handling major incidents and ensuring a systematic approach to their resolution.
To excel in this position, you should possess a recognised certification as an Oracle DBA and have extensive experience in Oracle Database Administration within enterprise environments. Your skill set should include the ability to conduct research, evaluate, design, test, recommend, and plan the implementation of new or enhanced Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes, and other database tools.
Overall, your role as an Oracle DBA will require you to demonstrate a deep understanding of Oracle Database Administration, along with a passion for delivering exceptional service and technical expertise to ensure the smooth functioning of critical databases.
Accountabilties
Promptly investigate and resolve incidents and problems related to Oracle databases, performing root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and implementing appropriate solutions to prevent recurrence
Collaborate with solution architects and developers throughout database project development, testing, and production phases, providing expertise in database design, optimisation, and performance tuning to ensure efficient and scalable solutions.
Plan and execute scheduled database activities defined by projects or operational needs, such as data migrations, database reorganisations, and data archival.
Define and perform scheduled housekeeping activities, including purging obsolete data, managing tablespaces, and monitoring storage utilisation to optimise database performance and space management.
Design, recommend, and implement robust monitoring and alerting processes to proactively identify potential issues, performance bottlenecks, or security vulnerabilities. Take appropriate actions to mitigate risks and ensure system stability.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of database configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Prepare regular reports on database performance, capacity planning, and incident resolution.
Stay updated with the latest Oracle database technologies, tools, and best practices. Evaluate and propose enhancements to the existing database infrastructure, processes, and automation to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
Execute change management activities, including change assessments, supporting customer change testing, deploying and rolling back database changes, and actively participating in the Customer IT Change Advisory Board (CAB).
Provide project-based activities at agreed schedule times, such as developing and modifying database objects, upgrading databases, reviewing database scripts, advising on peripheral OS configurations or capacity parameters, and designing database schemas.
Offer recommendations to Customer IT teams for configuration and installation settings for Database server setup, including relevant Operating System or Application configuration settings. Verify databases are in a fit state to be backed up and recovered, support database recovery, restore databases to requested environments, and provide support for DR tests and invocation.
Support scheduled activities outside of core hours, participate in an on-call rota for P1 incidents and provide technical leadership and recommendations for the future direction of database technology.
Skills and Experience | Essential
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Certified Master (OCM) certification.
5+ years of experience as an Oracle database administrator, encompassing a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Proficiently utilising Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, and database design techniques for configurations, build, and logical and physical data modelling. Implementing stored procedures, monitoring performance, and conducting upgrades, patching, and security measures to ensure database integrity.
Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting and resolving complex database issues, focusing on performance tuning, blocking, deadlocking, replication, connectivity, and security.
Proven ability to assess and optimise Oracle SQL queries and stored procedures to enhance database performance.
Experience in effectively troubleshooting and resolving issues related to business-critical databases. Knowledgeable in administering and maintaining Very Large Databases (VLDBs).
Hands-on experience working with various Oracle database versions, from 11g to the latest releases.
Familiarity with advanced AWS Cloud services relevant to Oracle databases, such as Amazon RDS for Oracle, Amazon EC2, and AWS Database Migration Service. Proficiency in advanced Linux/U
