**The Role**

We are recruiting a country counsel based in India to support India business. This attorney will report to a Legal Director, APAC based in Shanghai, China.

**What will you do**
- Work in a matrix environment serving all JCI business units operating as well as Corporate Secretarial related matters in India.
- Advise sales and procurement teams on legal issues, including contract review, negotiation and performance, customer disputes, product liability and etc.
- Update existing contract templates in line with Business needs or changes in legislation.
- Ensure all agreements reviewed comply with JCI guidelines, as well as support the Business during the internal approval process.
- Advise project managers on post-contractual issues, such as proper project documentation, progress claims, variation, delay and prolongation claims and etc.
- Manage potential claims by or against JCI and liaise with external counsel if required.
- Conduct regular training for the Business on legislative developments and updates to internal policies relevant to them.
- Manage India Cash initiatives, e. g. AR past due collection and UBR review.
- Advise HR on employment matters such as benefits and policies, restructuring, terminations, retirement and re-employment.
- Support the Regional Intellectual Property Counsel on intellectual property issues faced by the Business.
- Support the Regional Compliance Counsel in the implementation of compliance and data privacy policies, roll out training to the Business, as well as assist in internal investigations as directed.
- Support the Corporate Secretarial Manager.
- Work with members of specialized functional COEs from the global law team, such as Litigation, Labour & Employment, Intellectual Property and Corporate Development Office.
- Work on law department continuous improvement projects to develop legal best practices and provide trainings to business teams from an enterprise perspective, including unified negotiation approaches to commercial transactions, labour and intellectual property issues, contract templates, contract negotiation self-help tools, policies and processes.
- Contribute to regional committee or project teams set up by the law department.
- Be flexible in work scope and organizational changes to provide needed legal support to meet Business needs, as assigned.

**What we look for**
- Excellent academic credentials, with a LL.B or J.D. from a reputable University.
- PQE 6-10 years. Admission to other common law jurisdictions may also be considered.
- Prior experience working in an in-house law department of a multi-industrial, multinational company.
- Construction, technology and/or M&A experience will be advantageous.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Confident solution provider - able to function independently with mínimal supervision, but not hesitant to consult with colleagues on proposed solution.
- Very proactive - must anticipate risk, identify and resolve problems, balancing commercial and legal risks when advising the Business.
- Very ethically driven - able to say “no” in the face of strong business pressure and comply with JCI policies or the law.
- Good presentation and communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and excellent drafting skills
