**Introduction**:
As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.
We are recruiting a deputy industry editor to collate data and edit reports on industry sectors, ideally including financial services. The work will include researching the sectors to ensure our coverage is accurate, as well as compiling and checking data and forecasts.
**Accountabilities**:
**How you will contribute**:
- Edit EIU industry reports on several industries—including automotive, consumer goods, energy, financial services, healthcare and telecoms—across 60-70 countries per industry to ascertain that they meet the highest expectations of reliability, timeliness, range of coverage and astuteness
- Check facts, ensure consistency with accompanying data and monitor analysis for consistency with market trends, EIU view and with Economist brand values
- Edit reports in English to ensure that they read clearly and coherently and are consistent with house style
- Collaborate with industry chiefs as necessary to resolve persistent problems with scheduling or freelancer processes
- Give feedback to freelancers and industry chiefs
- Review the excel workbooks accompanying each industry report, in order to ensure that data is up-to-date and reliable, and that forecasts are consistent with the analysis in the reports
- Source and collect new data series as needed
- Keep to our fixed schedules for industry reports, liaising with analysts, sub-editors and production teams to ensure that deadlines are met
- When contacted, work with editors, industry data team and industry chiefs to resolve client queries on industry reports
- Monitor for persistent queries and use these to improve future quality
- Work with industry chiefs to implement changes to templates, data tables and analysis
- Ensure that changes are communicated to analysts, and that future reports conform to the new standards
- Work with industry chiefs to train analysts and editors in report processes
- Highlight common mistakes and issues

- Graduate/Masters Degree, preferably in Economics, Business, English or Journalism
- A minimum of one year's experience in editing or journalism, preferably business-related
- Strong numeracy skills, an interest in using data to show trends, and a basic understanding of economics
- Excellent written and spoken English Communication Skills & attention to detail
- Familiarity with business concepts in one or more industry sectors, preferably including financial services
- Strong familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to handle pressure during periods of heavy workload
- A commitment to work in a team to meet deadlines
- Enthusiasm, flexibility and an eagerness to learn
