Job Description: Academic Coordinator - Marine Training Institute Position Overview:
The Academic Coordinator at our Marine Training Institute plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of academic programs, managing curriculum development, and providing support to faculty and students. This position requires strong organizational and interpersonal skills, an understanding of the marine industry’s educational needs, and the ability to work collaboratively with training staff, administrative teams, and students to uphold academic standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- **Curriculum Management and Development**:
- Assist in designing and updating curriculum for various marine courses to meet regulatory and industry standards.
- Coordinate with instructors to integrate practical and theoretical components effectively, ensuring courses align with industry requirements.
- Organize and oversee the creation of training materials, manuals, and other instructional resources.
- **Faculty Support and Coordination**:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty regarding scheduling, resource needs, and classroom management.
- Provide training and guidance to instructors on best practices in teaching and assessment.
- Facilitate faculty meetings, ensuring clear communication of institute policies and academic goals.
- **Student Support and Academic Advising**:
- Assist students with course selection, program planning, and understanding of academic requirements.
- Address student queries regarding coursework, assessments, and academic challenges, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Organize orientation sessions, workshops, and seminars to help students transition into and progress through the program successfully.
- **Assessment and Evaluation Management**:
- Develop and manage the schedule for examinations, assessments, and practical evaluations.
- Ensure that assessment materials are securely handled and grading is completed in a timely manner.
- Track student performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing remedial programs when necessary.
- **Accreditation and Compliance Oversight**:
- Ensure all academic activities comply with marine regulatory standards, such as those set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other relevant bodies.
- Maintain up-to-date records of course content, faculty credentials, and student progress to meet audit and accreditation requirements.
- Support the institute’s accreditation efforts by preparing necessary documentation and participating in inspections.
- **Administrative Coordination**:
- Develop and maintain academic schedules, ensuring classes, practical sessions, and exams are organized efficiently.
- Manage attendance records, course registration, and student academic files, keeping all data updated and accessible.
- Collaborate with the administration team on budget planning, resource allocation, and the acquisition of educational materials.
- **Event and Workshop Organization**:
- Plan and coordinate industry events, workshops, and guest lectures to enhance students’ exposure to the marine industry.
- Organize mock assessments, drills, and on-site practical sessions in partnership with marine professionals.
- Engage in outreach programs to bring in industry experts and maintain strong relationships with external partners.
- **Continuous Improvement Initiatives**:
- Gather feedback from students, faculty, and industry partners to identify areas for program improvement.
- Participate in professional development to stay current with trends in marine education and incorporate relevant updates into the curriculum.
- Initiate changes to enhance teaching quality, resource utilization, and the overall student experience.
Qualifications:
- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Science, Maritime Studies, Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- **Experience**:
- 3+ years in academic coordination, program administration, or a similar role, ideally within the marine or educational sector.
- Familiarity with marine industry standards and training requirements.
- **Skills**:
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position with a mix of on-site and administrative work.
- Occasional travel to partner institutions, industry events, or conferences may be required.
Pay: ₹14,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
