**Special Educator & Counsellor - Children with Special Needs**

The Piramal Foundation is a Not-For-Profit organization that aims to create replicable solutions to some of our nation’s most pressing challenges. Our method is based on a belief that talented young people, challenged to address some of our country’s most common development issues, will find innovative solutions that are relevant, cost-effective, and applicable to the nation at large.

In line with Millennium Development Goals, Piramal Foundation is focused on universal primary education, reducing child mortality rates, improving maternal health, and improving access to safe drinking water. We currently work across 27 states, a lot of which is in partnership with the central and state governments. We have developed innovative approaches and programs in every vertical and built strong partnerships.

**Role Overview**:

We do this through forging strategic partnerships with the government and other key players; and bringing innovative, customized solutions, as part of our mission to ensure equitable and quality Access for All to Health, Education, and Safe Drinking Water.

Building forward on its purpose, Piramal Foundation is planning to expand its educational services to people with diverse (special) needs by setting up the **Piramal Centre for Persons with Disability**. We intend to work with people facing multiple challenges to be able to create larger impact. The strategic goals of the Piramal Centre are to strengthen the voice and autonomy of people with disabilities (individuals); build resilient inclusive communities (communities); build inclusive and sustainable local and national systems and services (systems); thereby ensuring that parents and/or guardians of ‘special persons’ know that, in their absence, their wards are safe and cared for.

**Key Responsibilities**:The Special Educator & Counsellor will be responsible for designing and implementing annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for Children with Special Needs to include - present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals. You will also work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed, adapt lessons to meet the needs of students and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.

The Special Educator & Counsellor will lead the below initiatives across districts in the State of Rajasthan:
**Parents and Children Counselling**:

- Focus on counselling (offline and/or online), providing therapy & guiding parents one on one as well as in group sessions.
- Create home programs for parents/guardians & train them on the delivery of the said program.
- Provide intervention for academic as well as need-based counseling for referred cases.
- Help students develop an empathetic understanding towards their fellow classmates with disabilities.

**Teacher’s Capacity Building**:

- Train the Piramal Village Inclusive School teachers to implement first level of screening for learning disabilities through BCSLD checklist (Behavioral Checklist for Screening the Learning Disabled).
- Coordinating and guiding teachers on effective programs and classroom interventions for students.
- Research and create more intervention modules in collaboration with the team.

**Support Livelihood Center**:

- Conduct various workshops for students, parents and school staff.
- Conduct in-house trainings with resource members.
- Guide visiting professionals (visiting teachers, placement officers, trainer) on a regular basis to ensure positive and continuous development in the children.
- Attend pediatric neurology and rural medical camps.

**Qualifications, Skills & Experience**:

- B.Ed (Special Education, Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability or any other specialization of similar discipline).
- Eight years+ in the development or education domain with three years or more experience in working with persons with disability (preferred).
- Ability to understand and interpret the unsaid coupled with the intent to provide service with care and dignity.
- A confident communicator, ability to dialogue professionally and diplomatically on complex issues with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to engage partners and stakeholders and achieve a balance between interpersonal relationships & project outcome.
- Excellent oral and written communication (Proficiency in Hindi is a must while Shekhawati and Marwari is preferred).
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PPT knowledge and demonstrated experience).
