**Position Title**: Dorm Parent
**Department**: Residential Life
**Reports To**: Director of Residential Life or Head of Boarding
**Location**: Boarding Facility

**Job Type**: Full-time (depending on institution)

Overview:
The Dorm Parent is responsible for overseeing the welfare and development of boarding students within a dormitory setting. This individual serves as a role model, mentor, and caretaker, ensuring that students are safe, healthy, and supported in their personal growth and academic success. The Dorm Parent is a key member of the residential life team, working closely with other staff to foster a positive and inclusive community within the dormitory.

Key Responsibilities:

- **Student Supervision and Support**:

- Provide direct supervision and care for students during evening and weekend hours, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
- Monitor students’ behavior, well-being, and adherence to dormitory rules and regulations.
- Offer personal guidance and emotional support to students, addressing their academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Help students develop good study habits, encourage responsibility, and promote their overall well-being.
- Provide mentorship and a positive role model in both personal behavior and academic pursuits.
- **Student Safety**:

- Enforce safety protocols and rules within the dormitory.
- Respond to emergencies, such as health issues or disciplinary matters, as needed.
- Conduct regular checks of the dormitory for safety hazards, ensuring compliance with school safety standards.
- Supervise evening and weekend activities, ensuring that all students are accounted for and following proper protocols for leaving the dormitory.
- **Residential Life Administration**:

- Collaborate with the Residential Life team to plan and execute student activities and dorm events.
- Keep accurate records of student attendance, incidents, and daily routines.
- Report any incidents or issues to the Director of Residential Life or Head of Boarding, as appropriate.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Residential Life team to discuss student concerns, policy updates, and upcoming events.
- **Parent Communication**:

- Serve as a liaison between students and their families, providing regular updates on students’ progress, behavior, and well-being.
- Address any concerns raised by parents and facilitate communication between students and their families.
- Coordinate with parents for logistics, including student pickups, family visits, and special accommodations.
- **Student Development and Community Building**:

- Help foster a strong sense of community and inclusivity within the dormitory.
- Encourage positive relationships among students and support conflict resolution.
- Coordinate and supervise extracurricular activities, including recreational, cultural, and social events, promoting student engagement and team-building.
- Assist in organizing dormitory-wide initiatives, such as community service projects, social events, and theme nights.
- **Administrative Duties**:

- Maintain and update student records, including information on student schedules, health issues, and behavioral matters.
- Ensure students’ dormitory areas are organized and conducive to study and personal well-being.
- Perform administrative duties related to dormitory operations, including managing supplies, coordinating housekeeping, and ensuring proper maintenance of the facilities.
- **Weekend and On-Call Responsibilities**:

- Be available for on-call emergencies during weekends, holidays, and school breaks.
- Supervise dormitory activities on weekends, including outings, recreation, and other group activities.
- **Other Duties**:

- Participate in school-wide events such as parent conferences, student orientations, and other institutional gatherings.
- Assist with dormitory move-in and move-out activities, helping students transition to and from the dormitory.
- Complete any other responsibilities or tasks as assigned by the Residential Life Department.

Qualifications:

- **Education**:

- Bachelor’s degree preferred, particularly in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with adolescents or in a residential setting is highly desirable.
- **Experience**:

- At least 1-2 years of experience working with adolescents, preferably in a boarding school, residential life, or similar environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor, guide, and support students.
- **Skills & Competencies**:

- Ability to manage and resolve conflicts effectively and professionally.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and calmness under pressure.
- A genuine passion for working with young people, helping them succeed academically and personally.
- Knowledge of and adherence to safety protocols and confidentiality policies.
